Please post how you use REX2

So I've killed off RXP player in Sonar as it is 32 bit.
That leaves me the ability to import RX2 files into Dimension Pro for playback via a MIDI controller or I just import them directly into an audio track.

What tools do other people use for RX files?

Cheers

Alex

You can ReWire Reason Essentials into Sonar and get both a really good sampler (NN-XT) and the OctoRex REX file playback instrument that handles eight REX files at once. I've seen it sell for as little as $79.95.

I'm still using RXP even though the rest of my setup is 64-bit...

I've not yet used a single rex file, and I do wonder if I'm missing out on something good.

My REX2 player of choice is Stylus RMX. It lets you load up to 8 files or a combination of REX and Stylus' content. You then have access to the amazingly flexible Spectrasonics audio engine, filters and effects. The only downside to RMX's REX2 support is that REX2 files have to be 'converted' and imported using an included external utility. The converter utility is also a bit picky about file/folder naming, but once you learn it, its pretty straightforward. It's a one time process and the imported files then show up automatically in Stylus RMX.

i pull them into kontakt, battery (which will slice the loops into pads), dimension, and i rewire reason into my other daws on occasion.
i love rxp though for the simple fact that you could rearrange the audio in the rex loop by dragging slices to different positions (that's something you can't even do in reason), and wish it wasn't abandoned and cake had taken time to address the automation issues when running it in x64.

It seems it was a total mystery as to why they effectively discontinued this product. Hey Cake how abouts resuscitating this from the grave or making it open source?

My guess when these things get abandoned is because the plugin was either developed by a third party, a developer no longer connected to cakewalk or it is just not cost effective to devote resources to it. I think a new plug all together that handles REX filea I more likely than an update.
