Please recommend master buss compressor

Hi,
I recently started using a compressor in the master buss. I have Slate Everything Bundle so I'm trying out the included buss compressors which are really nice. But they are now soon 4 years old, and there must be new ones worth trying. Can you please recommend plugins for this purpose?
I compress very lightly, around -2, -3 db, But also for the colour.
Genre guitar based rock/ballads.

I guess if you're looking for a "Track" bus compressor, the
above are great recommendations, and there are many more,
Including Waves SSL Bus Compressor, SSL Duende Bus Compressor,
etc...ad nauseum, just depending on "what you're after"
...if you're looking for a "Master Bus" compressor - Ozone 7 Advanced.  It's a
one stop Master Bus/Mastering tool that is, IMO, AWESOME!

TDR Kotelnikov is a good free one. At the other end of the price scale, my current favorite bus compressor is the one in Acustica Coral, a package which includes EQ, preamp, and more for 200 euros.

And +1 on the awesomeness of Ozone Advanced, which has several excellent compressors and limiters, including the really cool Vintage models. The only drawbacks are the frequently high CPU usage and the cost of the package when not on sale.

Slate VBC isn't bad at all ... you already have three of the better options for bus compression out there. It's fun to try the competition, though. :-)

Cheers,
Eddie

Waves SSL. And the Waves SSL bundle is on sale for probably less than the price of 1 plugin.

Waves  API 2500 is my new favorite.
You will have to wait for it to go on sale though, currently too expensive.

I use The Glue most often on the mixbus, but lately I've branched out to the Waves SSL comp, which I sometimes like better than The Glue, though both are really similar. I've also used MJUC by Klanghelm which is also very good and punchy.

The ones people have all suggested are good. Another one you might check out is MTurboCompressor. It is basically about 8-10 compressors in 1. A lot of variation available and it sounds good.

BTW, what settings do you recommend for attack and release for subtle master buss compression? the idea is to have subtle gluing effect. I imagine slow/medium attack and the same for release...

attack I personally  prefer 10 ms or just under.....release can imo be anything / depends on the material and tempo.
I try to raise the release to -just before- where it starts to slow down the music.
btw, those are mix settings, I don't know about mastering attack/release

Ack!

I bought the UAD API 2500 but the UAD-G seems like it might fit my song better. I ain't pay'n $200+ for a plugin though! :) I'm slowly getting the API where I want it. It will make your snare and kick through if you want it to...

I've had Cytomic's The Glue for a couple of years now and I love it. I mainly use the slowest attack, 30ms, especially when there's a strong kick in the mix. I find that even at 10ms, I lose something of the impact of the kick. I also keep the release quite fast. Ratio 2:1 or 4:1 depending on the track. But never more than 2-3dB of GR.

The Glue is awesome on all sorts of material though, I use it on guitars as well.

I really like Nomad Factory's Bus Driver.  It's... I think $10 right now.  Anyway, I didn't expect it to be my go to, but I've ended up putting it on the master track and busses in all my mixes.  It's kind of a set it and forget it compress/limiter with some tube drive emulation on it.

As a caveat, the way I use it is putting it on the fx rack so it's operating post prochannel console emulation... Which means it's possible most of the sound that I really like out of it is from driving the console emulation super hard, but I digress. ;)

It is a good compressor. It is clean, the interface is simple/good, it does what it is supposed to do, the software is efficient and well supported by the developer.

Hurry and go get the 14 day demo and try it out.

I think the sale ends today or tomorrow?
EDIT: The sale ends Feb 25.
