Pls Mix me

Hi,

I want you to download this bundle file and use only Sonar7 equipment to polish so we can understand how to handle problem instruments, like kick, bass, hihat etc...

At least you can touch at bass and kick, and final mix... You can upload as s preset.

This can be very important for some people here, to seeing your eq, comp setting can give us triggering point..!

Pls do this

I guess Ill take a stab at it. Though I am slammed and probably wont get at it real soon.
What happens if other folks dont have the same plugs? Or are you suggesting we only use those included like the sonitus?

Yeah Ill just use the sonitus on the tracks...

Thank you so much, that would be great

This is a very cool idea for people to see how you would use complimentary EQ and what to cut in one instrument that will emphasize other instruments. I think alot of people think of EQ as just boosting a frequency or frequencies, but in reality its best to cut another instruments offending frequency to hear the one, with out boosting the one you would want to stand out or be more predominant in the mix.

Very nice idea. I downloaded it but it'll be a while before I'm done with it. I like the bass line.

I had some free time today, and I did a static mix of your tune using nothing but Sonar 7 package processing, as you requested. PM me an Email where I can send you an MP3. You can then post my mix here if you'd like.

    Regards,

Wow... I started messing with this tonight and I have discovered that I am not qualified to mix this type of music. LOL

I feel like a ton of automation is needed (which I rarely even use) but Im gonna do a quick mix like I was mixing a rock record. Not to offend but these tom rolls are out of line IMO. I just cant make anything of them without something done to em....Like recutting them heheh

Has anyone else felt like the strings didnt need anything done to em? I also think plain ole shelving works here. Am I completely wrong?

Just so you know. My son came in and said he loved it and wanted to pass this on to his friends. He thought I created the tracks LOL

Man I hate to screw up an already great IMO track.

The Strings needed EQ adjustment, as well as almost all the rest of the tracks. There are a couple of tracks where the instrument timbres arent very good, and very tough to mix in ( #12 & 14 especially), but thats going to happen eventually when you are working with digital software synth sounds as your source audio.

I wanted to have a some fun and get some practice in. I normally do Huge Rock stuff. So this was interesting and fun to work on. Especially since I was restricted to the Sonitus suite, predominently.

    MF,

In the PM, you asked for me to state my EQ, Comp, etc ...settings. To do that would take me forever, as I processed nearly every track differently. I can send you a Cakewalk Project File, as that would be the easiest way to go.

I too have been doing quite a lot with it. I plan on saving it as a template. That way the file is small and you can just copy in the data.

Of course I don't know when to stop. I could work on this for quite some time. I may not finish but I will give you something that may give you an idea of where I was going with it.

The cool thing about this is that every one here will have a different take on how to mix it.

I first time see sonar simulates master out level like recording..! I see how you set comp, reverb, pan... This is so useful, many thanks JP..! Kick was giant, i didn't do that, sounds so cool now

I need while to understand this...

Thank you so much for your effort... You both give me so much idea, i appreciate that..

Hey, look what they have done with my song, take look inside how they use Sonar's EQ's, comps etc... Look how kick sounds..! I wish some more people would participate in here..!!!!

Here is the first template came from JP4321
... I loved the kick here, i couldn't believe kick was playing awesome :))

And this one from bassmanx, i like this little more because i can hear all instruments the way i want to hear.. I am going to use ideas from both and make my own mix

If you have problem with bassmanx' s file, you mixdown the problem channels from original bundle file i first uploaded and import to bassmanx's template.. In case if you don't know

My next song will be far more beautyfull

    ah, ok.. nice..

I dare to post my mix too..
but it's made with Sonar 6PE.. and, as I said, I used some "other" plugins..
I'll try to "convert" to all-sonar-plugs when I have time.. maybe this weekend.
the kick is a real challenge.. I would replace it with another sample..
I didn't edit all the tracks..
    anyway.. here it is:

Did you regenerate the snare? It's sounds like BFD now and it is awesome... The slower place in the song become romantic, i took your little delay, i know what you mean. Can you tell me what plug ins you have used?

I have to see this on my display Please try with onboard plugs. Once again the slower side make me sad, so meaningfully now

    Hey Fav,

I am glad you like my mix a bit..
I'll send you the original-file as soon as I can (wont be in the next 18hours though)
and, as I said, I will also try to convert to all sonar plugs and send you that file too..
I mixed over my K271 Headphones.. so there's probably a lot of eq'ing to do in the mid-range..
The snare, I am not sure if I should tell you.. agh.. at the risk that some people jump on me for this.. it's a "gated reverb" effect that I applied.. so you only hear the reverb as long as the snare hits.. I just recently started to try this effect and began to like it..

I think the most important non-sonar effects I used were the MPL-1 Limiter (a bit on the master-bus), Voxengo Soniformer for the "width".. it gives the mix more "dimension". I also sparely made use of Ozone (Master reverb, and a bit of eq on the drum-bus I think.. that can easily replaced by sonar-plugs). The free Camel Crusher on the bass-track.
You'll see when you get the file.
I wish I had that melody-track mixed a bit louder..
Delays are my favorite effects.. so you hear them quite a lot on my mixes

If I realized they would be posted, I would have spent more time on it Still, it's very cool to see how everyone has a different take on the same project.

I agree with Frank on the Kick drum. I too would have chosen a different one. Perhaps one of the "Police Rock" samples in Session Drummer 2. I did the best I could with it. I think I spent the most time on the Kick.

Anyway, I had fun mixing the track. I think it was a great idea. You know, we hear everyone's "Musical Style" when we hear their music but it's not as easy to hear their "Mixing Style" because the difference in songs makes it an apples and oranges thing. This is a great way to hear the different "Sonar" styles. Very Cool
