Plugin Help???

Hey guys,

I try to think of myself as not too stupid a man. But this music creator is kinda sending me round the bend....

At the moment i ahve downloaded the free version of addictive drums as to see what the drums where like on there and if it was maybe worth a future purchase....Thought it would be a simple case of downloading it and installing it......but oohhh noooo :(

So ow do i get it to work? I have copied the VST .dll file into music creator 6 VST folder but seems to have no effect and when i load music creator it does not seem to recognize it anywhere? Any help wouldbe great? I can see all the possibilties with this program........so much so i bought a midi keyboard yesterday to add real time synth efffects to tracks, but its really not a simple , user friendly experiance :(

Thanks guys

Kind of makes you wonder how you ever graduated third grade, doesn't it?
Don't worry, this stuff has humbled most of us at one time or another, especially starting out.
Just keep working with it and give yourself some time. You'll catch on.

By default, MC6 scans for VSTs when you start in up.
If this is turned off, you will need to start a scan from the Plug-in Manager.
Just being in the folder isn't enough. The VST has to be registered within the program.
Also, Addictive Drums may be in a sub-heading. Look for listings with arrows next to them.
I'm not sure if copying the .dll is a good idea. It's ok to move one, though. A lot of people like to do it that way.
My personal preference is to let the VST install to its default folder, and add that folder to the list of folders to be scanned.
Congrats on the MIDI keyboard. That will prove to be a hugely worthwhile purchase.

Yeah , it's frustrating at times.... but all you have to do is tell MC where to look.

As Robert said, I generally will let something install to where it wants to. BUT... very important... as the new toy is going through it's install, somewhere in that process it generally asks or tells you what folder it installs to. Write that down or remember it.

Then simply go into the Plug in manager, select the VST list and ADD that new location and folder/file to the search list. RUN the VST scan.

I have my VST scan turned off by default on startup since it slows down the start process and unless you have added a new VST, there's really no need to scan at startup every time.

Once you do that, cake sees the new VST and it will show up in the list available.

Can you get the VSTs that came with MC6 working?
I mean, your post does not give a clear picture of how well you know the program, there might be something obvious we're not aware of, and thus fail to give accurate advice.

You see, a sentence like "...bought MIDI keyboard to add real time synth FX to tracks" puzzles me slightly, in the sense that the keyboard is actually the tool you use for playing any VST instruments, AD included, the actual music, not just effects, unless you have other controllers. The keyboard is an essential tool, a very useful purchase.

I've been using and loving AD from the year it was published, and I don't remember any installing quirks, or anything that is different from any other drum soft synth/sampler. But I got the picture that todays version, or the one you get with SONAR, is somehow different.

In case you're familiar with using soft synths in general, just ignore me :o)

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
