Plugin Layouts

I'm kind of late to the party--finally getting to use X1 after buying it last year.  I'm diving in with a new sense of resolve to relearn everything from the ground up (albeit with  a renewed sense of resignation on the 15 gradations of Black-to-Gray screen colors and oversized fonts, icons--how in the world have those lasted this long??)
Anyway, I am having a hard time getting my custom plugin layouts to work.
The standard  "Default All Plugins" is pretty unusable because of how it randomly assigns things to folders and has some expanded, others collapsed and no apparent order. So,  I have created one custom layout for VSTi's and one for FX.  So far, so good.

However, I can't get either of these to stick as the default layout, so what is the point?  Every time I switch the Browser Plugin Tab from FX to Instruments, it seems to revert to the "Default All Plugins" no matter how many times I choose my custom layout from the dropdown list.  It doesn't show up as one that can be edited, so is there a way to delete or hide the 2 "Default All plugins"  layouts for both FX and Instruments?

I also tried my hand at setting up a screenset with each of the browser layouts, so Screenset 1 shows FX browser, Screenset 2 shows Instrument browser, but switching one seems to switch both screensets (both show FX or both show Instrument). Each time before I can "simply" drag and drop, I have  to go through clicking on Plugin Tab in browser (where the pop-up help helpfully obscures the choices of FX, MidiFX, Instruments, Rewire), then click on the appropriate plugin type choice, then (re-)selecting the appropriate custom layout for that type, then I can finally locate my plugin in my custom view.

Yeah, something is buggy with the browser I think. The instruments tab of the browser does use my custom plugin layout, but not the FX tab. It just shows the default layout. And like you, I couldn't at first get the right click context menu to remain on my custom layout either, but just for FX, synths worked fine.

However, now both synths and FX are remaining on my custom layout on the menu (not sure what if anything, I did differently), but the browser FX tab will still only show the default layout.

If I wasn't doing this I'd just be doing something else...

chauncey, I had this exact same problem! It was driving me crazy. One day, my custom menu just stuck on its own. I have no idea why it wouldn't stay there or what happened to make it finally stay. But one day I just loaded up Sonar and my menu was there without me having to select it each time. I wonder if there is some sort of .ini edit or something for this?
