Plugin Name issues

So I recently had a harddrive malfunction on my PC which ended up resulting in a reformat of my C drive. I got sonar 8.5.3 reinstalled on windows 8.1 (same as before) with my VST and Audio drives set up essentially the same way as before. One issue I'm having, however, is that the old version of my choir plugin is named something different than on the new install, so when I open projects for the current album I'm trying to finalize it can't find the VST. I can still open the VST under the new name, but the settings aren't the same as before so I need to somehow get Sonar to recognize it as the same plugin.

Thanks

Plug-in names do not matter to SONAR. SONAR uses a CLSID generated from the vendor supplied plug-in ID to identify plug-ins. If the vendor has changed the plug-in ID, it is a different plug-in according to the vendor and SONAR treats it as a different plug-in.

And to add I'm pretty sure any custom pre sets are gone forever unless those plug ins were all stored on a second data drive. Sonar's scan can include other folders so any plug ins that you customize and save pre sets for should be stored anywhere but the C drive.

I usually save plugin settings within the project folder. This way they are easy to find when you need them and they don't get deleted or overwritten when you update your system.

That's the weird thing, it's not a new version. It's the exact same install file. Luckily since i have things spanning what is now 4 different hard drives, I had my old VST folder intact and was able to delete the new .dll and replace it with the old one, which sorted out the problem. Presets are most likely completely gone, but I have all my old project files so I can just pop open my plugins and resave the settings as presets.
