Plug-in Stand-in again.

I have a fresh load of Win 10, Sonar x64 and all my plugins, some 32 bit, many 64 bit.
When I load a recent (last week) project that was mixed on the Win 10 32 bit system. Some of the plugs don't load and show the plug-in stand-in. This is all fine and good I can still boot up the 32 bit drive and copy the settings for the plugs in question to a preset and replace the offending plugs in the 64 bit environment and load the presets.

However. This is going to be an issue for all projects before the 32-64 bit conversion.

Please, Cakewalk. Please make the stand-in tell us what the discrepancy is and let us modify things so as to be able to fix this.
There are a bizillion threads on the net about this. Please make Sonar smarter or give us the tools / info we need to just correct this situation that has gone on way too long.

Thank you.

Have you made sure your 32 bit plug in folder is being scanned ?
Have you tried to load those same 32 bit plug ins and they work fine ?

This might be a little out of my league as I haven't heard of this issue before.
Sounds like a mini nightmare though. Sorry for your troubles Bitman.
Been so long since I used a 32 bit system and plug ins for that matter. I use almost exclusively VST3 now.

    Yep and Yepster!
I actually know what I'm doing.

What I want is an intelligent stand-in that will tell us more and maybe change what Sonar thinks to what Sonar should know about a plug. I know is some circumstances, when Sonar finds more than one of the same plug, it will give a choice and that's a start, but for the times that a plug is listed in the bin as (plug) there needs to be more so we don't loose the plugs settings or envelopes.

I think it would be nice (if not crazy) to let those of us who know their way around C / C++ to fix the more "bugs in the corner" issues they may never get to. I'd take this on on today for no compensation other than a fix for this one. I envision a button on the stand in to "Find Plugin". This would bring up a explorer window and you could click on a dll to say "this one".

It has a useless "Online Info" button. Why not make it useful?

There is a way around everything.

    Hi Bitman,

I'm not sure that I would call it a Plug-in Stand-in (don't know what it's actually called) - Sonar has found more than one match for the plugin in question and is asking which to use.  I do agree that they could do better job of giving you specs on what your options are.

I've run into the same thing and for me the best fix has been eliminating dupes from my scan folders.
    Foe example:
If your only DAW is Sonar the best approach is to not install components you don't need - so if you're using Sonar X64 only install VST3s if availble, if not only then only 64 version.
If you think you might need an old version archive it outside the VST scan paths and if you later find you do need it then restore it.
Sometime the newer 64 bit version doesn't pick up the patch settings of the old 32 bit version - there's been a couple of times where I had to load the old version to get the patch name so I could then replace it with the 64 bit version and manually reload the correct patch.

If you use multiple DAWs where do need to have the VST 32bit versions or nonVST3 versions then organize your VST folders.
For example my VST2 32 bit folders are:
    C:\Audio\VST\32 bit
C:\Audio\VST\32 bit (has 64 bit version)
only the top folder is in my Sonar VST scan path, for another DAW that only supports 32bit plugs both would be.

This for most part is what works for me, YMMV.

    Best regards,
    ...Steven

    Well I'm nearly back.
A few of the pesky plugs actually are dx. Yeah it's been a long time.
I found that out by looking around the 32bit image's plug in manager.
I was shocked, and will be replacing those with vsts.
