Loving this thread! Full of useful info. Thanks everyone for sharing.

That midichords thing looks v cool Kamikaze. I have Autotheory but don't like how it works. Some of the other plugins on that website also look cool (e.g. midichord analyzer). Here's the website... http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=midiChords

An excellent YouTube demo of Midichord's capabilities here ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5ar_3nGx2w

What's gained by registering it. I've had it ages, it doesn't seem to run in a restricted mode?

It seems there are 3 categories of free plugins mentioned here:
  1. Plugins that you normally pay for but got for free (eg Black Friday/Christmas gifts, one off freebies with magazines).
  2. Magware.
  3. Plugins that are always free.
Plugins I use regularly which haven't already been mentioned are:
  • Category 1: NI Supercharger and NI Replika (with honourable mentions to Z3ta+ and Rapture - given away with Computer Music magazine).
  • Category 2: D16 Frontier CM.
  • Category 3: Stagecraft SC Delay (can be a bit flaky but huge amounts of fun are to be had).
The list of plugins that I haven't got round to trying yet could go on for pages.

Does my brand new Electric Grand for having a old Focusrite 2i2 count?

What did you think I would say on a freebie thread?

Got Waves buy one get one free. I think it was Waves Compressor that I got free after buying Renaissance Channel.

For me the best cat 1 freebie is probably EventideRoom reverb closely followed by Arturia Mini Filter.
That Ostinato Strings Christmas freebie from SonoKinetic was also excellent.

Along the lines of Autotheory/Cthulu but free like Midichords there is also Mucoder Tonespace --> http://www.mucoder.net/en/tonespace/

Some of the freebie with Sonar - I know of one person who still uses those Sonic Timeworks plugins that came with 2.2XL

Even those I upgraded to the VST version, I still keep VSampler on my systems.

a very old favourite... synth1 by the japanese guy.. but the extra presets make it and cpu wise it's light

I gotta add +1 to this one.  Since finding the 64-bit beta version, the 14,000 presets, and how to change the color scheme, this thing continues to amaze me

This thing has been featured 4 times on KVR One Synth Challenge.  This is a very good sounding and versatile virtual instrument!  Listen to the tracks from the most recent competition here:

It looks really impressive.
Where is a manual?  I understand the readme.txt but how do I route this to a synth?  I couldn't in Sonar, but I'm demoing Reaper so I'll give it a whirl there.

Thanks, but I'm not getting an option for the input 'MdChrds' of the Lounge Lizard.  Everything else I have the same, and I'll really show my ignorance here, but how are you entering the chord intervals?  When I double click on the field I can't enter any numerals or letters.

Oh, well.

Declan, on the midichords vst2 menu I had to enable midi output. Then it shows up as a selectable midi input on the instrument track.

NP, declan :)

Here's what I have figured out so far...press a key on your controller keyboard e.g. C3. That will appear on the input (lower) keyboard on the screen. Then you can either click with a mouse on the notes on the upper keyboard that will play when you play that key or select Menu --> {chord type} and select whichever chord you want from the list. You can do this for every key on the lower keyboard. For any keys you want to pass through unaffected to the output just shift-click them so they turn orange. I was able to set up a load of keys and save this under Program 1 (click arrow to the right and press save) - I created a midichords folder under my documents to save programs.  To load it back in repeat the above but select the file by clicking once and don't click save (I couldn't find an actual load button).
