Plugins in wrong place, won't uninstall

i was tryin to install gt3 to my extHD on the off chance i could do some rough tracks on my little notebook(little notebook has no cd drive), it didn't work, but then when i went to start over putting it on my desktop (32b vista btw) it installs first on C, and the next page in the wizard where you should designate where your plugins should be installed, it says they're already installed in J:\programfiles etc(my extHD designation), and will not let me browse for a new location.

even with the hardrive unplugged, it still says they've previously been installed in J: and there are no options.

help!?

Unfortunately there is no easy way to take care of this.

    1. You will need to uninstall GTP3 from your machine.
    2. Second you will need to delete all folders related to GTP3 (usually found under C:/Cakewalk - delete the Cakewalk folder and it's content from the system), but be sure to back up any projects you may have started before hand.
    3. Also delete any Cakewalk folders under My Documents.
    4. Click on start, then run. Type in regedit and click Ok.
    5. In the left hand pane look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER and click the plus sign next to it. Look for "Software" and click the plus sign next to it. Look for "Cakewalk" and right click on it and select delete. If prompted with Are you sure you want to delete click ok.
    6. Next look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and click the plus sign next to it. Then look "Software" and click the plus sign next to it. Look for "Cakewalk" and right click on it and select delete.
    7. Close regedit and atempt an install and all should work fine.

That's what messed me up on my uninstall. I didn't check the registry files.

Just wondering if this would take care of a similar problem I'm having. GTP4 froze on me and the next time I tried to start it, it said it was not installed correctly.

Uninstalled it, deleted folders, etc.. Tried to reinstall and it says "A previous version of GTP is installed, some VST may need to be reinstalled" or something to that effect. Anyway, I try to add a vst effect after recording a guitar clip and it doesn't find Guitar Rig, which is part of GTP4. It does find Line6 vst, but they don't work.

Guitar Rig and Line 6 both work by themselves, but not as a vst plug in.

    Thanks for any help.

    Fred,

Yes the steps outlined would help you correct the problem with it not finding the VSTs. I think the larger concern though is the notice that it was not installed correctly after it froze on you. If it happens again you may want to contact Cakewalk with a trouble report and include your system info as well. Hopefully though a reinstall will take care of your problem.

I had to reinstall my hard drive. Some songs were mixed down, some not. (Oh, guitar tracks 2.0) So i moved everything to my external drive and nothing works. the songs that were not mixed have different icons and will not play. I get the feeling I cannot transfer the cakewalk files back to my c drive. Is this correct? Or can anyone explain to me if it can be returned back to my hard drive. Thank you in advance, I know I went about this the wrong way! I WAS IN  A HURRY..... Sincerely, Drummerone

Answer. Maybe. Maybe not. The question is did you transfer all your audio folders over when you made the change . If so then you should be able to restore the audio back to your projects. If you failed to do this you are out of luck.

Thank you for your reply. I moved everything cakewalk to external drive. All songs are in cakewalk projects.. But most are.wrk files. Do I need to reinstall program in "c" file. Cause I cannot reverse from external drive to c drive. There is not that option when you right click on external and go to send to section
This is not my area of expertise. So any help when you have time will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Drummerone And sorry for being in wrong subject area

To move everything back you would need to move it to C:/Program Files/Cakewalk/Guitar Tracks

To do this open up a window by clicking on my computer. Then click on the external drive. Find the file location.

Open a new window by clicking on My computer and browse to your C drive, then to Program files and then to Cakewalk and copy the files over. I can not guarantee that this will work. You may have to uninstall GTP erase the folders, edit the registry to remove all traces of the program and then reinstall. If you are not technically versed this can be a process that could render your computer useless.

I would strongly suggest in getting some help[ from a friend that is good with computers and have them follow my previous instructions and then reinstall GTP.

Thank you for taking the time to help me out. I understand what you are saying, If one solution does not do it. I know better than messing with the registry! So I thank you very much and I,ll hope for the best! Thanks again, Drummerone
