Pod X3 Live-"Name that Sound"
Made a simple backing track to jam with, trying different settings on the X3 (none helped my guitar playing) but later realized I really liked the effect around 1:45, but didn't save the setting and now can't reproduce it. Anyway, I thought I'd post it to get it out there, still searching. Since my hands are so small, I really struggle to play lead guitar, my AAD brain is saying "Satriana" while my fingers are tripping over each other. SO I have to manage slow deliberate notes and not make them so boring, just need to keep working on smoothness and timing. Maybe I should have taken up the tambourine. https://soundcloud.com/capg/scroom

Hi Cap, nice backing track although I thought I heard some clipping but that was probably a synth ; ) My favorite tones are the clean ones at 3:00. They are curiously louder than your distorted ones. Rik

Thanks Rik, I am not a good edit man when it comes to vol levels, but I noticed it also and lowered vol a bit for that section, lowered the lead some too. Throw some feedback on the revised version vol mix https://soundcloud.com/capg/scroom same link as before. I can't get soundcloud to take the image I upload for this tune (281kb)

Nicely done. I liked the guitar sounds from around 3:03-3:04 to the end best, but they all sounded good throughout. Nice and simple with a really nice sound. Enjoyed!! Peace and Blessings, John

I liked that section also, but after the first comment about the section being a little loud, which I though so, I brought that section down, but I think I went too far, will try again tomorrow.

Hi Cap, this all sounds very nice but it's missing a nice lead guitar in the middle. You've used a stereo effect a couple of times which sounds nice but there's nothing in the middle. Now it's almost a long ending. I keep waiting for that lead guitar which never seems to come. have a bit more confidence, lead guitar is the fun part : ) Rik

I hear ya, its missing a nice lead guitar in the middle because the nice lead guitar player is missing. I'm the only one and sometimes really miss having someone that could put that "awe" guitar licks in places. I also think there is a balance between enough guitar lead and too much. So I intentionally have just background sounds in places for a break and to set up the next what ever. Sometimes I will try putting a different instrument in like Alicia Keys piano, strings, etc. but I'm a one-two finger keyboard player (carry over from my guitar skills!?) and still learning how play. Need a nice piano player. This piece was done in 2-3 hours just as a jam practice piece, but after some tweaking by edit I thought I'd post to see if I could get some constructive criticism, because that really helps understand what other people are hearing. The editing was the biggest time consumer and I continue to have problems with vol levels between tracks. So I thank you for your comments. I'll play with that middle spot, maybe tambourine? more cow bell?? cap

Hi Cap, there is no such thing as to much lead guitar ; ) To much vocals, yes, to much bass, yes, to much drums, absolutely yes, to much lead guitar, there is no such thing ; ) Rik

That sound at around 1:40 sounds like the "Reverse" patch in my Boss GT-8.

This piece was longer than what I posted on soundcloud and while playing along I was turning knobs and hitting buttons just to see what sounds it had. What smarts is I could hit one button to save but didn't think much of it at the time. I had a simple BOSS 33 until I plugged in wrong power supply, and considered a GT8 as a replacement, but brother helped me get a used POD. Will check to see if mine has a similar setting. PS on your song "Instrumental C", what did you use for drums? I like the stop and go. thanks captg
