gamblerschoice It's both an environmental, ethical/moral and sometimes a health issue. Well...if the laws concerning climate change come as strict as they should (which they don't) meat becomes so expensive you can only afford it once a week. Another nut job who thinks it is immoral or unethical to eat meat. Keep your wacko ideas in between your own ears, I am not forcing you to eat meat, why are you trying to regulate through bogus climate issues the things I eat. If you want to be regulated into submission, be my guest. But I will fight this at every step. Later Albert Oh, you're touchy! As I mentioned clearly in my post, I do eat meat, but I'm trying to cut it down. What in my post gave you the idea that I'm trying to regulate your meat eating? Well...english isn't my first language either. Liking meat doesn't mean you need to be blind and deaf. As I said, there are few places, where meat is being produced in an acceptable way, but there are such, luckily. And I'm working in fur business, so don't think I'm some kind of an extrimist. In europe one of the biggest problems are the animal transportations. My lady friend used to do simultaneous translating of the court cases in EU court where they were arguing about things like " how many broken legs must a cow have before you're not allowed to use an electronic whip to force it to run." As unpleasant as it is, one day it's not possible anymore to sell meat as cheap as today, because the amount of plants/feed required to grow a pound of meat is simply too big, and the regulations will make animal husbandry more complicated.. It will happen whether you like it or not, but not in our lifetime. BTW, I just ate some nice brasilian beef.

hairyjamie Well I'm bucking the trend here but I'm a confirmed and proud vegetarian and have been for 22 years. And I'm not one of your namby pamby veggies that eat fish either - I don't have any of that! +1. As much as those of us who are vegan or mostly so know that it's good for our own health and that of the planet, there's unfortunately little possibility of seeing that viewpoint embraced by others. Until a few years ago, if I cooked for guests, I'd always relax my "rules" and put something of a seafood variety on the menu, thinking they'd be disappointed if I forced a veg. meal on them. Then, on my 60th birthday, I thought, what the heck ... this is a perfect excuse to cook exactly what I want. And you know what? Everybody loved it. Now if I cook for company, I cook veg. without apology and nearly always vegan. I'll be immodest and claim some proficiency in the kitchen, but it doesn't take a miracle worker to make food with no animal products taste good ... you just have to believe it can be done and care enough to do so. Now, my guests routinely say things like: " you know, I could be a vegetarian if the food always tasted this good".

Kinda strange to most but I guess culture is a word best defined as : "LIVING YOUR OWN LIFE" and not a definition to define a group of others. JMO....... Electric Falcon™ - The Carnivore! The forbbiden rice took the reduced marinade well and the next day, I was in the mood for a burger.

From your first post..."if the laws concerning climate change come as strict as they should". That is the statement that threw me off. You see, I happen to think that the entire "global warming" farce is designed to do exactly this, use fear of a non-existent crisis to forcefully redirect tax dollars, and enact laws to force a universal control of the world population. The laws, that is the problem. Using laws to control personal activities. I didn't mean it to be a personal attack, outside of the concept that you are attacking my personal freedom by endorsing a political system that would control me through price manipulation based on an invented crisis. Not touchy, very defensive. We are under attack here in the states by the people in our own government. The European continent has lived under socialistic governance for so long they no longer remember what it is the few of us who are still awake here are fighting for. And your english is just fine, you express yourself quite well. A lot better than I could in any language other than english. I have no idea what language people in Finland speak, I imagine it to be closer to German? Sorry if I took too great a swing at your comment, it is a reflex these days. I hope I explained the reasoning enough. Later Albert

Electric Falcon™ Kalle Rantaaho I eat "everything", and I like most of it (except for rye porridge). I've tried to cut down the meat consumption, though. I do agree to that people in the west eat about five times more meat than they should. It's both an environmental, ethical/moral and sometimes a health issue. There are so few places in the world where meat is being produced in an acceptable way. Well...if the laws concerning climate change come as strict as they should (which they don't) meat becomes so expensive you can only afford it once a week. The only problem I have with your response is the fact that you are "Judging us Americans" by saying the "West", making us out to be savages, Uh, What you got against us Americans anyway?. And how you think we eat our food and maintain our lives by eating is a farce opinion since you don't live here. I asked what "YOU" eat, not what you or others think of what's eaten around the planet. Electric Falcon™ I wasn't blaming the US. I used the word "West" as opposite to Asia, where the diet is more veggie-based. Europe is a part of the so called "western world", I'm shure you agree. Germany isn't in the Middle East?? Also, I'd say, I quite clearly was talking about my own habits, and why they are the way they are. I was in no way excluding myself, on the opposite, I critisized myself as well as others. People, as a mass, are able to see only one thing at a time. When indications were found, that some info on the global warming was edited to make it more dramatic, people suddenly thought that the whole thing is a hoax. It's understandable, because the whole climate issue is so huge and difficult to crasp. That kind of black-and-whiteness makes living easy, of course. If there's only "on" or "off" , you can make up your mind more easily and imagine everything is in control. But we all should remember, that if only 40-50% of the climate threat speculations is true, it's already so serious, that people don't evern dare to think about it, which leads to denial. The thought of having to give up so much we've taken as granted, is too uncomfortable for most to bear. If 80-90% of the scientists in the world believe that the global warming is a serious issue , it's somewhat pathetical if a mere fur salesman or amateur singer says:" Naah, it aint!" The fact that some scientists think the situation is catastrophical, some think it's just worth very serious actions, and some think we still have time, doesn't mean there's nothing to worry.

..."that some info on the global warming was edited to make it more dramatic".... The data was manipulated to produce false results. Then, the data that did not support the conclusion of "man made" g/w was deleted, and destroyed so that no one could present a conflicting view. If you wish to consider that "editing", you are working with blinders on. ...."the whole climate issue is so huge and difficult to crasp.".... No it is not. But in order to deflect arguments and negate disagreement, the alarmists use the tactic of declaring "complicated" science, making it appear that the "uneducated" masses can not understand. Unfortunately for those scientists, the issue has been public long enough that us "eneducated" have had time to read and research on our own. In the internet world, hard words can be looked up, difficult concepts can be broken down to their core values, and scientific "genius" can be delared "bullsh*t" by twelve year old school kids. ...."if only 40-50% of the climate threat speculations is true"..... Then 50-60% indicate it is not true. The science is not settled, the truth is not yet known, and more research needs done before a single rule, law or tax can be justified. I wish to stay in the realm of discussion, not argument. I do not want to attack you personally, but rather discuss the ideas intelligently. If you wish to continue, bring your "A" game, as we have run this race in the recent past, and it was not pretty. Later Albert

This thread makes me think of that song from the 90's, one-hit-wonder thing. The line from it is something like: "she doesn't eat meat, but she sure likes to bone". I'm going to have to youtube that I guess.

Wookiee hairyjamie Well I'm bucking the trend here but I'm a confirmed and proud vegetarian and have been for 22 years. And I'm not one of your namby pamby veggies that eat fish either - I don't have any of that! Nothing wrong with that Jamie does this mean you are Vegan or do you use some animal by products such as milk or cheese? I do know someone who is an extreme vegetarian he will not eat anything that cast a shadow. He only eats lichens and such. Funny things I have seen the shadow of lichen. Hey, i've not been checking the forum for a few days (damn work!) so I missed this. I'm not a vegan, I eat cheese, drink milk, wear leather etc. etc. I just don't eat meat or fish - have never really done so even when I was young. I just don't like the taste!

[link=http://glossynews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/crazy-man-tied-to-tree_01.jpg][/link] Johnstown, PA (GlossyNews) – Local and state police scoured the hills outside rural Johnstown, Pennsylvania, after reports of three animal rights activists going missing after attempting to protest the wearing of leather at a large motorcycle gang rally this weekend. Two others, previously reported missing, were discovered by fast food workers “duct taped inside several fast food restaurant dumpsters,” according to police officials. “Something just went wrong,” said a still visibly shaken organizer of the protest. “Something just went horribly, horribly, wrong.” The organizer said a group of concerned animal rights activist groups, “growing tired of throwing fake blood and shouting profanities at older women wearing leather or fur coats,” decided to protest the annual motorcycle club event “in a hope to show them our outrage at their wanton use of leather in their clothing and motor bike seats.” “In fact,” said the organizer, “motorcycle gangs are one of the biggest abusers of wearing leather, and we decided it was high time that we let them know that we disagree with them using it…ergo, they should stop.” According to witnesses, protesters arrived at the event in a vintage 1960’s era Volkswagen van and began to pelt the gang members with balloons filled with red colored water, simulating blood, and shouting “you’re murderers” to passers by. This, evidently, is when the brouhaha began. “They peed on me!!!” charged one activist. “They grabbed me, said I looked like I was French, started calling me ‘La Trene’, and duct taped me to a tree so they could pee on me all day!” “I…I was trying to show my outrage at a man with a heavy leather jacket, and he…he didn’t even care. I called him a murderer, and all he said was, ‘You can’t prove that.’ Next thing I know he forced me to ride on the back of his motorcycle all day, and would not let me off, because his girl friend was out of town and I was almost a woman.” Still others claimed they were forced to eat hamburgers and hot dogs under duress. Those who resisted were allegedly held down while several bikers “farted on their heads.” Police officials declined comments on any leads or arrests due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, however, organizers for the motorcycle club rally expressed “surprise” at the allegations. “That’s preposterous,” said one high-ranking member of the biker organizing committee. “We were having a party, and these people showed up and were very rude to us. They threw things at us, called us names, and tried to ruin the entire event. So, what did we do? We invited them to the party! What could be more friendly than that? You know, just because we are all members of motorcycle clubs does not mean we do not care about inclusiveness. Personally, I think it shows a lack of character for them to be saying such nasty things about us after we bent over backwards to make them feel welcome.” When confronted with the allegations of force-feeding the activists meat, using them as ad hoc latrines, leaving them incapacitated in fast food restaurant dumpsters, and ‘farting on their heads,’ the organizer declined to comment in detail. “That’s just our secret handshake,” assured the organizer.

It shouldn't be but that is just hilarious. There are some Motorcycle Clubs back there you don't want to mess with.
