Popping/static like noise on....
Been a while since I have posted. SPLAT, HP Envy 7, Focusrite Scarlet 18i20.
So, I export my audio from a project, I save the wave files to my desktop. I want to reference-so I use the CD burner utility in SPLAT. Yet, every song on the multiple CDs I have made in the past two years, at the end of every song, when the audio has stopped, there is a pop or crackle or static like sound at the end of the song. What the heck is causing this? Even if I have silence at the end of the song, it's still there. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't hear on the files I uploaded to SoundCloud, just CDs. What is it and can you get rid of it?

A single pop, or a succession of crackles (like "static")?

If you open the file in a Wave editor do you "see" anything at the end? If not then I would use a proper CD burning suite like Nero.

possibly related to FX tails. I typically automate my MB when mastering to avoid it.

Good deal. I have Nero so I will try it. Strange thing is that when I make CDs from iTunes, WMP no issues. Just the Sonar CD burner utility.

Clue this dummy in - what does the MB stand for? I don't think it is FX tails.

It may be that you have some DC offset that is removed by the online services but not by your CD burner. MB is an abbreviation for the act of self-pleasuring. The post indicates that he prefers to use a vibrator as opposed to manual jacking off.

MB I guess is Master Buss. You've answered your question here, I imagine you'll have no issue when burning with Nero. Strange thing is that when I make CDs from iTunes, WMP no issues. Just the Sonar CD burner utility. So solution is don't use Sonars CD burner, obviously a turkey. As I said if you open the exported wave in a wave editor and zoom in on the ending you should see if anything is in the actual wave file. If nothing shows then the CD burner is adding the artifact somehow.

I really made myself look stupid - Master Bus, should have known. Dead on - nothing there in the wave file when I zoom in and seems that Nero works just fine. Once again - everyone here has been extremely helpful. 20+ years recording music and the last 2 years with Sonar Platinum as my first DAW. Still tons to learn.

Do you leave a gap at the beginning of your songs ? or do you start your songs at 1:01 ? If you do you might want to create a test by moving the whole project to 2:01. I always leave myself a 1 measure grace space because of situations like this. MB=Master Bus FYI= A cut off FX tail will present a popping/clicking noise.

Yes - it’s from my analog days. I always have at least four beat gap (sometimes more) at the beginning because in the analog days, I used it as a click track to set up the song. When I first started with SPLAT I learned real quick to have a space at the end for FX tails as well. I have learned more from this forum than all the YouTube videos I have watched AND I even took about 8 lessons in digital recording - which were ok, but not extremely helpful. But you guys on here - always provide solid helpful advice. I think it is the Sonar utility because Nero and WMP don’t have that pop/crackle sound when I burn from them.

Glad your sorted it out. I'm not sure why Sonar bothers to bloat itself with things like CD burning. Seems it would be better to focus on what it does best and leave those chores to proper software. I bought Nero 10 years ago for I think $30. I certainly got my moneys worth out of it. I was worried I'd have to upgrade with W10 but seems to be happy.

You might be right (Sonar utility) because I typically use Nero as well . Good luck Sam.

Nero has been pretty damn helpful for certain. Now if I could get my mixes to sound as good as yours.
