Pops and crackles + 99db
Hello, I've been having this problem where the multi-out tracks from Superior Drummer peaking, showing a value of 99db. This occurs when I mute or unmute tracks while the song is playing OR during bouncing/mixdown. It happens very frequently during mix down and bouncing tracks. So the exported tracks end up in silence with occasional pops and crackles within the track itself. I'm using x64 Windows 7 PRO, with x64 Sonar x1 build 255, SD2.2.3 (if i remember correctly) 64 bit version. Would be great if someone can help me out with this

Hi,i use SD 64 bit on same config pc and os.I don't have problems. Sound like bad link with your midi events and sound card. You can try to increase the play buffer on device (many users have no problems with 512)and increase the midi play buffer (500\1000). Can you specific your soundcard and ram amount? Greetings

I'm using a Presonus Firebox firewire interface, with 8gb of RAM. My PC is pretty decent and new, an i7 2600k (quadcore) running at 4.0ghz. After the pops and peaking occurs, I have to close the reopen the project again before I can continue working on it. I'll try out the buffer thing and I'll post my results here.

When bouncing down, try disabling the Fast Bounce option. Does that resolve the problem (when bouncing)?

sorry for the late reply have been busy of late but have tried the above suggestions without success. I've noticed that it is very likely to occur if I were to un-bypass all effects and pressing play after that.

Never seen that before. Are you using the inbuilt SD mixer or are you running each drum out to a seperate track?

I have several plugins within the SD mixer and I'm also using the multi out too.

Sounds like a plugin issue. Save a copy of the project and start eliminating possible causes. I'd start by deleting all the VSTs in my multi outs. If the problem persists then you know it's not them, if it doesn't then you know where to start. Revert and then delete half of them. If the problem persists then you know it's not them, if it doesn't then you know where to continue, etc etc.

I just had this same issue develope for no reason on an Audio Track. The project only has about a dozen tracks but it only hit one of the tracks in the project. It just started for no apparent reason. Meters peak and that wonderful noise that is intermittent through out the track. Havent played with it much lately to see what the possible cause is. It doesnt indicate any spike in the wave form either. Wierd

In my two setups X1 makes huge audio peak if I save project during playback. I'm not 100% sure but it sounds like all FX are bypassed for a little short time - maybe one buffer size or save time. My audio interfaces are RME Fireface 800 and Cakewalk UA-25EX. I believe it's not 3rd plug-in issue. I've seen +99 peaks several times with bundled FX only in the project.

For my case the peaks only occur on the tracks and buses that have Superior Drummer running through it.

Try kicking up the audio interface latency one notch, maybe superior drummer is taxing your system. My previous system would crackle if certain soft sythns were playing

Paul Russell wjm123 For my case the peaks only occur on the tracks and buses that have Superior Drummer running through it. so turn it down. It's not at simple as that. The peaks I'm referring to are of 99db, its obviously a glitch somewhere. I'll try turning down my interface latency, but its not crackling during playback like what you've mentioned. Whenever the problem occurs, my tracks will start to peak (99db) and popping and crackling sounds will occur even though its not playing back any audio at all. Then I all I can do is close the entire project and reopen it again. Heres a pic of it:

what is your bouncebuffmsec number? have you tried eliminating plugins on those tracks?

eliminating plugs, especially if there's the same one on those tracks, or multiple instances of one, is a good start; first delete them all... is the kick/snare tracks the only ones that don't peak? what's different about those? are they cloned tracks? good luck

Thanks for the advice, it will take me some time to eliminate the plugins then do a mixdown to determine if the problem still persists. I use several different kit setups in SD and the same problem still occurs. I don't know if the peaks occur consistently on the same tracks, I'll find out and post some results back here.

I take it you guys mean something like this: Get's real interesting when you send a full-scale impulse through a reverb. I never thought I'd say this, but... Thank goodness for Boost 11!

Eliminate any 3rd party Reverbs and give that a try. I just ran into a problem with pops and ticks on another DAW platform and it turned out to be a combination of 3rd party reverbs and a particular processor heavy delay/time adjustment plugin that is native to that product. I could have one but not both in my Superior Drummer tracks.

+99.9 dB usually means a bad float value somewhere. Typically that's a NaN. Not - a - number. IEEE Float defines that as a number that cannot be represented as a real number. Probably a bad operation in the plugin somehow. NaNs propagate through every subsequent math operation. Keith

Probably a bad operation in the plugin somehow. Hi Keith. I have a nice reproducible case attributable to Audiosnap's Groove-Clip stretching algorithm. I will file a Problem Report.
