Possible bug with Step Sequencer? (maybe screen set related) SOLVED!

Hi guys,

Can anyone confirm this for me? Open up the normal template provided where you have an audio and a midi track. Load EZDrummer into the audio track, open step sequencer and hit an instrument button. When you do this, it puts the midi track it creates on the audio track.

Now, here's the kicker and what you may have to do for this to work. I believe it may be a screen set oriented issue. My step sequencer is set for screen set 5. This is saved into the "normal" Sonar template. So you may have to do this first to make this happen.

So lets say you're set up like me. Screen set 5 has Step Sequencer in it. You drop EZD on track 1 that is audio, you press a button on SS to make a sound and it makes no sound and sends the midi clip that is supposed to be on the midi track, onto the audio track.

Now undo it. Cycle a few times through your other screen sets, now go back to screen set 5 where SS is, NOW press a button and the sound is heard, and the midi clip appears on the midi track.

Can anyone confirm this for me if you get a minute please? Thanks. I'll create a video for it just in case.

-Danny

Hey, Danny. I was able to reproduce just as you described. I am just curious, why not insert EZD as a synth instead of as a plug-in in the FX bin? Kind regards, Living Room Rocker

Can anyone confirm this for me? Open up the normal template provided where you have an audio and a midi track. Load EZDrummer into the audio track, open step sequencer and hit an instrument button. When you do this, it puts the midi track it creates on the audio track.

    Interesting. I cant reproduce this.

I noticed in your video that the Step Sequencer view is already open in screenset 5 of your template, and the Dock tab for it says "Step Sequencer Audio".

When I follow the steps above, opening the step sequencer view in the normal template, I can only do it if the MIDI track has focus. When I open it, the tab for it says "Step Sequencer MIDI1", and that's where the clip shows up when I start enabling cells. I tried it with a couple different screensets, and it made no difference; the SS is always associated the MIDI track that has focus when I open the view.

I'm not sure how your template came to have SS associated with the audio track, but that's obviously the root of the problem.

The issue may have resulted from a bug, but the solution is probably just to kill that SS view, open a new view with the MIDI track in focus, and re-save the template.

The one thing I don't understand is how Living Room Locker is able to reproduce it if he doesn't have that same template. My normal template doesn't have SS already open in any screenset, and I can't get it to wrongly associate with an audio track.

Thanks for looking into it LRR and Brundle. I appreciate it.

LRR: I know, I'm so used to doing stuff the old way. I thought that could be the issue why I'm having this problem to begin with. I've just always done it that way when inserting little things. When I do a huge VST config, I use it through synth and have it make individual tracks for me etc. So it happened on your end too? I think I'm going to submit it to the Bakers and have them check it out to be sure. I thought one of them may have saw this thread and replied by now...so it's probably best I submit a bug report. I wanted to hold off though hoping a few others would try this.

Brundle: Thanks...so you can't make it happen? I think what you mentioned about the SS being associated with the audio clip is the place to start. I'm going to do as you suggest and re-create the template to see if that helps any. Thanks for the feedback and for trying this out, guys.

Brundle, you hit the nail on the head with that "audio" thing in the dock. I did as you suggested...removed SS, put it back in and resaved the template and now it loads each time as SS midi as it should. Must have been some type of bug in the template...but it works perfectly now. Thanks so much for your help in troubleshooting this....I appreciate it. :)
