Possible to capture an internet stream in Sonar X2?

Possible to capture an internet stream in Sonar X2?

I used to be able to capture an internet stream in Reaper, however, now that I've upgraded my computer and OS, I'm not able to do it in Reaper any longer. Wondered if Sonar has the ability.

    all DAWs have the ability to do that - it's a matter of your soundcard, not the DAW.  you have several different soundcards listed in your sig.  I'm sure most of them will do what you want.

    you have to select the INPUT of the audio track which corresponds to the OUTPUT of the soundcard, or if your soundcard has routing software then you may have to route the output back to an input first.

    for example, on my MOTU, I set up the MOTU software to send the output to the RETURN INPUT, then select the RETURN INPUT as my track INPUT source, then hit record.

    Beag's got you sorted here, but there is another way of getting 'internet' audio into SONAR. As far as I can tell, it won't work for live broadcasts, but it will work for virtually all other audio that you might want to acquire. And there is a bonus in that you don't have to 'record' it in real time, you just download it.
     
    To do this, I use (the free version) of RealPlayer:
    1. Copy the URL of the webpage that has the audio (or video with audio) you want to download
    2. Open RealPlayer
    3. Click on the RealPlayer drop-down arrow in the top left of the GUI and select: File > New > New Web Browser (or hit Ctrl+N)
    4. In the browser that opens, paste the copied URL into the address bar and open the webpage
    5. If you hover the mouse cursor over the audio player or related video, a Download This Video message will appear:


    6. Click on this to download the video/audio to RealPlayer's "My Library"
    7. When the download has completed, click on View Library
    8. Hover the mouse pointer over the download, and select: More > Convert

    9. Click on the Convert To button near the bottom of the UI
    10. In the window that opens, click on the drop-down arrow under Select a Device and choose Audio Formats and select which format you want the audio saved as
    11. Choose the destination folder for the audio in the Save In area and hit Start

    Further to this excellent post by the Dawg:
     
    Specifically the Roland Octa Capture if it is the same as the Quad Capture in this respect, will show a pair of extra output channels Main L-R, use these as your Record input in Sonar and anything you listen to on that interface can be recorded from there in real time.
