Power in the Blood

This a redo of the old classic Baptist hymn....

The guitar is my newer Tele Modern through the POD2 on the clean beginning guitar tracks.... then it's through the Mesa Studio 22 miked up... nice and fat and crunchy for the distortion tracks

I'm playing the guitar and piano.... everything else is.... well... sampled.

There's 6 guitar tracks....

enjoy....

Sounds ready for the radio.  Lots of depth and space around the different parts and a classic arrangement.  Drums are really nice.  And not bad playing on your new baby.  Glad you were able to restrain yourself by making the song the object, not it.  If I had a new synth I wouldn't have been able to control myself.

Thanks AT.... This was a fun little project.   I started over on the guitar tracks this morning... (the leads) since I wasn't too happy with the first few takes a few days back.... I recorded the piano part today as well....

Herb,

Guitars sound great, love the harmonies.   Overall very enjoyable listen all around.    If I had to contribute a critique it would simply be that I am not a fan of BIAB MIDI drums.  They aren't bad but they are not my cup of tea..   Love the song and performance though.

Very nice mix, as usual. Crystal clear guitar. If you don't mind me asking, what did you use for the sax?

Nice clean mix, guitars are nice but the sax stole it! I've got some real sweet brass horns on my X8 but I'd shoot my grandma for a fat sax sample like that! Slayed me Hack! I learned piano as a kid in a southern baptist church, took me back home. Really, where did that sax come from?? Too sweet!

Well it was good? Well performed and well recorded, but I was missing the lyrics... But it was a little "loungy..." For a moment I felt like I was in a bar at the Holiday Inn? It would have been much better with a singer Herb.

I'm working on one that goes, "Our Rob, is an awesome Rob, he reigns from heaven above, with wisdom power and love, our Rob is an awesome Rob..." Look forward to it.

Well that's not what I was expecting!  laid back and "loungy"

but honestly, way too long for an instrumental.  there's nothing to "break it up"
if you want to keep the length and keep it instrumental, I'd suggest a completely different middle stanza - something with more "umph"

And there is power in the blood? As I recall from my last marriage, it was "very powerful..." About every 28 days... And you did not want to mess with it. "Very powerful indeed..." Best to schedule a business trip out of town on such occasions.

Lighten up Leadfoot. Religion is why people are killing each other around the world "every day..." Many died today? Many more will die tomorrow... I'm not saying that I believe, or that I do not? Just that "people die" from disagreeing on the issue. "Facts?" Are difficult things... Faith requires, well "Faith?" However, "facts?" Facts are indisputable... If my comments offend you or others, "I'm sorry you're offended." It was not my intent to offend you.

Perhaps you should make it your goal to be less offended? Flip on the news? Pretty much "everyone" is looking for a reason to be offended these days... It's one of the biggest problems with our culture today (IMO). *Mainly one reason? But others too... And I believe that book has some things to say about "Judges?" Some pretty bad things as I recall? (I've read it, front to back, several times...) But "the Judges..." Seem to forget that part about judging?? It's so easy to read the rest and then pass judgment ;-)

I try not to Judge "harshly?" Because I don't want to be judged "harshly..." Good luck with that your honor ;-) You must have a pretty clean slate?

Something about the log in their eye? (if I recall correctly...)

Most "everything" I say should be taken with a healthy amount of Sodium Chloride... So again, "lighten up Frances..."  (My name is Frances, but if you call me that? I'LL KILL YOU! Lighten up Frances...) Unless that is, unless you  disagree with the First Amendment? If you disagree with #1? You can pretty much throw the rest out the window... "Frances?"

Those people who flew those planes in to those buildings have rules about what you can and cannot say too? Think about it... Would you rather be like them? Or the opposite of them? Me, "personally?" I'd rather be the opposite... But if you choose Jihad? Hey, it's a free country.

power in the blood... "I've read that book, front to back, "several times..."" Please don't look for reasons to be offended. There are too many legitimate ones? In fact, you can do a google search on "something" Brotherhood... That's what we should be focused on IMO.

Herb, Very lovely sound to this one and of course the title has a message for all, especially for the believer in the blood of Christ (Eph.2:13), which the song was intended for, in its' original version. I like everything you did with this, the arrangement, instrumentation and the mix. You didn't need words here, as they are already written and so for those that like to sing, they can make it work for themselves. On the other hand, your version seems to have been done instrumentally to inspire. To get others to relax, contemplate and find hope, when hope for many seems vague. Very nicely done and very inspiring. Thank you for sharing.

Peace and Blessings, John

John, Mark & Kev... thanks for listening...

It was done intentionally as a laid back version of the song.... and I felt I needed to simply play some guitar for a change. Most of the stuff I write and play is pretty confining, as far as being able to take a solo or just "play" free form....

Very smooth production Herb, and great playing.  I think I agree with Beagle above saying it could use something in the middle to break it up.

I do think the guitar leads are a little too bright and trebly, especially when the delay kicks in.  Maybe you could dampen the EQ on the delay feedback a little.

Also, in general, maybe the guitar lead (which is excellent) is just a tad too much out in front.  For instance, at around 1:50 when the guitar lead hands off to the sax lead there seems to be a bit of a drop off in the apparent volume of the lead voice.

Rimshot, Daryl, Mike, Walt.  thanks

In that center section.... well, it really didn't end up sounding like I thought it world. I played a simple piano line....then decided to play a guitar octave doubles (typical jazz thing) in unison with the piano... not panned radically but maybe 20% or so... the concept was cool enough but the results didn't sound like I thought they should..... rather than edit it.... I simply left it since this is not a song for critical acclaim.... it was just something to do and move on....have fun in the process....

I enjoyed listening to this Herb. It wasn't what I initially expected to hear because the song that I'm familiar with that has this title has a totally different melody.I like this one as well. The guitar playing was nice the whole jazz feel was nice. A really nice backgrounder.
