Power suply question, will this be enuff?

Hey guys i just ordered an i-star case with what was supposed to be a 460 watt power suply, but what i got was a 300W. Will this be enuff for a stable recording enviornment. Using the athlon 4400 dual core on a asus a8v deluxe with 2 gigs of ram and 2 to 3 hard drives?

Doubtful. You will probably have numerous instability issues with the low of a PSU. I mentioned in another thread that ypou really need a minimum of 450 and a good quality PSU at that. I would demand that theycorrect your order if that is what you were told you wpould get. trust me, you will be far better off with a decent PSU.

    I wouldn't try it with a 300.
    460 ... ok.

I think it's best you scrap the hole thing and just ship that stuff over to me. That sure does sound a heck of lot of what I'm looking to build right now and I could use a few spare parts like that.

Seriously though, 460 is about the minimum you want to go. Don't skimp on the power supply, there's no such thing as having too much power when it comes to power supplies, but it sure is the other way around. For my last DAW I bought a tour case, which can house 2 power supplies just in case I needed it.

    I use a Silverstone 300W(nominal power) which peaks at 400W,runs fine with 3 Seagates,AMD 3400+,Asus K8N,Delta 66& 2GB Ram.
You should get what you ordered though, don´t accept an inferior surrogate.

    Windows 10 (LTSB) - i7 8700 - ASUS GTX1060 -16 GB Corsair Vengeance - Samsung SSD´s - Seagate HD´s - RME FF400 - & too many geetars & amps

I would get a better & bigger supply if you can. You don't want the kind of problems you will have if it isn't up to the task.

I just picked up a 480W Antec TruePower 2.0 for a similar 4400 X2 A8V Deluxe DAW I'll be building some time after XMAS. The TruePower series supposedly meets the specs on all supply rails simultaneously. So, in theory it's better than some cheap off-brand 600W or 700W suppply that doesn't. It also will control the RPM of up to 2 case fans if I'm remembering correctly. It was $99 at Fry's.

yeah i pointed out the antec 550w that i wanted and gave him the item number twice and he said "yeah im not seeing it"
Maybe someone hates their job but im not going to argue with him about it. Ill just take the credit use it on something else and buy a power suply from my home town. Just a little dissapointed in NE. Ive heard such good things about them.

I've been using the TruePower supply, and it's been nice. Very quiet & reliable.
