Practical uses of Automated Knobs in Synth Rack.

Who uses these and, and what for?
 
Playing around today, the only use I could find for them is to provide a shortcut for finding the correct synth parameter you want to automate. 
Hit Assign Controls button  and click on a synth parameter.
Hit the Assign Control button once more to automatically assign it to a new knob, and then use Write Enable to draw in some automation to avoid scrolling down an endless list of often confusingly labelled synth parameters in the edit filter drop down menu.
 
 
Other than that I guess you can edit your synth without having to open up the gui, but what else is there?
