Preferences Changing
I thought X1 preferences were global and independent of individual projects, but it's not so. I couldn't figure out what was going on at first. I'd read an interesting thread and then alter my preferences to take advantage of the newly acquired knowledge. Magnetic snap strength and pan laws are good examples. I thought I was losing it. Snap would work, then not so much. I figured I was dealing with yet another X1 bug and maybe I am. Bottom line, if I change a preferences setting and then open an older project the preferences change back to whatever they were when I did that project. Personally I don't see any benefit, just more work and something else that has to checked every time I open a project. There's many things I want to save that are unique to a project but my global preferences are not one of them. This explains several of my X1 "bugs", does anyone know what I'm doing wrong??

It's really unclear as to what's project level and what's global, I agree. And some project things really should be global, like snap. Pan law is probably best per project, though, I think. Or you could end up loading up an old mix that would suddenly sound insane. Very much doubt you've found a bug, it's just poorly explained in the UI.

Okay, let me rephrase the question. How can I tell what is a GLOBAL setting and what is a PER PROJECT setting??

Heh, well... eventually you start to remember. I've never found any kind of quick guide to this, either in the program or the manual. It could use some clarification, I agree.

For me it would be a great feature if they would put a big G or P beside each preference to indicate if that preference is Global, or Project. There's nothing I can find in the reference manual or Scott's book that would tell me. That's a usability improvement I could get behind.

Yeah, agree. It's always been confusing. Even when we had explicitly separate "Global" and "Project" preferences in previous versions, you'd get things appearing in the wrong category.
