Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL No Output in VSL

For any of you that have this interface - Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL, Win 7, SPLAT - probably a stupid question.

Everything was working fine in SPLAT using the VSL S/W and routing Sonar to it. Then...

If I have the VSL application turned on (the virtual light in the top left hand corner), you see the input from the DAW, or any other input going appropriately, but there is no out put either that you can hear or see in the Main or Headphone (O 7/8) virtual meters.

If I turn the VSL application off, I can route Sonar to any of the outputs and it works fine.

It's like a wire is cut between the inputs and outputs in the application but everything is fine in the hardware.

I have reinstalled the latest driver and forced a firmware update.

I've been using this for three years without problem and I haven't a clue what happened - In the virtual mixer there was nothing changed AFAIK and it looks like the channel sends are appropriate. A while back I had inadvertently turned off the (software) switch, not realizing it was even there - I am hoping I have done something equally ignorant. I can use it like this, doing all the routing in Sonar, but I do lose some monitoring options.  - Thx in advance - Ron

I always monitor the processed output through Sonar, as when I track/record I have my ASIO Buffer Size set to either 128 or even 64 and have no latency issues.

I happen to have the AudioBox 1818 VSL as well, and the only times I EVER go into it is if I have to change my ASIO Buffer Size from low for tracking to high for mixing, or back the other way.

Other than changing that setting, I do not do anything whatsoever with the UI for the interface.

There is also a note on the Presonus site that indicates that moving forward, they are no longer doing any work on that UI - only whatever might be necessary for the actual drivers to work properly.  SO - I would move away from using that UI for anything moving forward.

I came to the same conclusion and  M.O. as you Bob, and it was an M.O. I could live with if need be. However, I got really tired of the lack of support over the years with the Presonus drivers . i liked the software and the ability to apply the Fx in the (interface) box and the ability to use the interface as a virtual mixer to play my instruments routed through the interface without going into the DAW. I had some parts of my system fried recently and so had a rebuild and I was getting crackles in the output, having to reload drivers and firm ware several times. So I got a great price on a Focusrite Saffire 18i20 and just switched over. Quick one time install, works great, gives me the inputs I neeeded: 8 analog pre-amps, 8 ADAT in, SPDIF, plus the near-zero latency monitoring in a standalone virtual mixer and a bunch of extra software as a bonus - thanks for the info and confirming what I thought - Ron

I DO still use the audio interface itself, just not the virtual mixer UI.
