Presonus Faderport & X3
Hello, Anybody with X3 tried using the Presonus Faderport? If so, how did it work? Any problems with features or installation? I'm thinking of purchasing one as I've heard good things about it. The Presonus website says it's compatible with Sonar, but I'd rather hear about compatibility here. Thanks in advance.

Its not SONAR with the compatibility problem, Its Windows and Presonus with the problem. Presonus is to blame for it not working in the later window architectures. I have no idea what windows you are suing, but if if Win 7 64bit or older, throw the faderport into the river. Do not waste your time. I ended up getting the Avid Artist series controller when i went to Win 7 64bit.

Hmmmm, I was able to get it working with Windows 7 64-bit, but it was convoluted. There were new drivers and instructions on installation, also you have to enable key aftertouch or something like that or it won't work. I ended up loaning it to friend when I got the V-Studio 700, so I have no idea whether it's compatible with Windows 8.1.

I had one and it worked ok for a while, you have to manually register the dll to get it to work. I think I might have bricked it attempting a firmware update and replaced it with a Mackie control. Regardless, it's now sitting in the graveyard.

@CJAY... It works fine with Windows 7 32 or 64 bit.... I'm not sure about Windows 8. Aside from having to manually register the DLL, the rest of the setup is within Sonar Configurations/Settings... Don't blame Presonus for that. With Studio One I didn't have to load anything... it just worked. With Sonar (as mentioned above) I had to manually register the DLL, then enable key aftertouch and channel aftertouch. It works fine. This sweetwater "how to" is what I used to get it going. Sure it's for X1, but I don't suspect much has changed for X3 in regards to controllers. Make sure you use the full path when registering the DLL, and don't assume the path they provide is the same as your machine. You need to know where that DLL is located. http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/how-do-i-get-the-faderport-to-work-in-sonar-x1/ EDIT TO ADD: I just did a re-install of my machine last week and realized I didn't setup the Faderport on X1 yet.... I just followed those procedures and it worked perfectly. The trickiest part was locating the DLL that was installed with the driver so I could register it (there is a specific one for Sonar 32 and Sonar 64). The whole process took less than 5 minutes. One step that is missing from the Sweetwater how to is that you need to restart Sonar after doing all the steps.

I have considered the FaderPort as a supplement to the fact that the Mackie Control emulation in my Behringer X32 only manages the tracks (not the buses). As a workaround, I've configured my APC20's (Ableton controller) non-motorized faders to control the buses in Sonar. It is workable, but I'd prefer a motorized fader that I could freely scroll among the buses in my mix. Are you able to make the FaderPort jump from the tracks to the buses? Are you able to easily choose a bus using one of the FaderPort buttons? Are you able to draw automation on a bus using the FaderPort?
