Price conscious way of obtaining the full version of Kontakt 5.
I have found myself drawn to some of the instruments/libraries that are only played through the full version of Kontakt 5. Not sure if I would ever get them as the price seems to be higher than I can handle at this time. Any suggestions as to the kindest to the wallet way of getting the full version of Kontakt 5? Any thoughts including warnings to stay away are appreciated!

Not sure if komplete select is still on sale for 99, but if so, that should lower cross grade price to a point where upgrading to full komplete would be cheaper than kontakt alone would be.

I would think that getting the free Kontakt player, and buying and registering an instrument from one of the third parties would get you qualified for a crossgrade to the full Kontakt for $125. So if you could find a third party library on sale, that would be even better. Right now there is the sale still going on. 50% off stuff over there.

It would be great for some if there was a translation from that Sennheiser site to English. I have never been able to decipher that one enough to register it. But thankfully I grabbed the Soniccouture Estey Reed Organ when it was offered for free a while back, and obtained the same Kontakt crossgrade privileges.

Thanks for these next two options as well. I was able to make it through the German on the Sennheiser site. Right now waiting for the confirmatory email. Then I will see if I can work my way through the download page. So there are definite options to get to the cross grade price! Thanks!

So the registration worked, but I will need to wait a couple of days to download the program. On the download page there is a toggle for dvd delivery, which would have been great. But a big ‘we can’t do this’ ( of course in German) came up. Worth the try!

I had no idea a cross grade would work for sample packs. I also picked up the Reed Organ for free. Registering with Soniccuture also give you further free packs, but I never bothered because they don't work on Player. I just went to check with NI and logged in to check if I was viable. It confirms I am, because I have SampeMdelling's Trumpet 3. It doesn't mention I am because I have the Reed Organ, but it as doesn't mention that I am beacuase I also have SampleMdelling's Trombone or their Tuba and French Horn. Seems it just list one of your purchases, instead of all. Picking up a Kontakt Player sample pack on special could work out well as means to get a foot in the door. SonicCouture had some great deals in January, I think half price. This will probably come around again. They seem t have the best Vibraphone out there

With the 3rd party sample instruments crossgrades, I think all you have to is to get it registered in your NI account. I don't even have the Estey Reed Organ installed at the moment, but it shows up as available in my NI products. Then when I look at my Kontakt crossgrade eligibility, NI says the Estey Reed gets it done! This indeed worked! I did need to download and install the Sennheiser program, then I was able to take advantage of the cross-grade to the full version of Kontakt. Even though the Sennheiser website is in German, the layout is very standard for these types of website. Meaning you can probably guess your way through the questions and options! Plus i got a slightly different drum program to try out.

I was doing the initial sign up on my phone, as my computer wasn’t available. And I know a little German, so I didn’t even bother with seeing if I had a web site translator program for Safari on my iPhone. But your suggestion is noted.

Be careful what third party libraries you buy for Kontakt player as they may not be recognised as eligible for cross grade. There seems to be a defined list on the NI site. None of the ones mentioned here so far appear to be on that list. But then again I could be wrong. There does not seem to be any easy way to get Kontakt 5 full version cheaply. By the time you add the cost of the third party library to the cross grade price it seems to add to close to just buying it outright.

I did find Sennheiser's DrumMic'A on the list, and indeed when I went through the checkout line, before committing to payment, there was a green check mark and a confirmatory message saying I was eligible. I will try to post a pic.  This will come up after you put Kontakt in the cart and as you start the checkout procedure, but before you have to pay. So this would be a way to confirm crossgrade coverage for something registered on NI's site. It appears right now that the only way to checkout eligibility for a third party product before you would purchase it, is to check through the listing above.

True, but there have been a couple of FREE libraries that make one eligible for crossgrade pricing. If you actually bought a 3rd party library to use with Kontakt Player, I hope that was something actually needed, not just for the crossgrade to the full version.

Sample Modelling stuff is excellent, but you really need a breath/wind controller.
If I was to but a Vibraphone, it would be SonicCouture, it seems by far the best, and they lots of other cool things too. It's worth ding an upgrade with them as you get a free non-Player pack with each purchase. I fancy those 10cc Vocal pads. (I think they had a 50% off in the winter). I als have an interest in their Hang Drum. but it's also quite novelty (Early Portico Quartet sound demonstrates it's more than Hippie potential). There Suitcase Rhodes wuld be high n my ist if I didn't have AAS and XLN's option. Zo did a great review of there electronic kits, but I waiting for a deal n Tremor now I know abut that.
That NI site is a mess though. I had to stumble my way through the to find the crossgrade price of 125 Dollars. There seems no direct way to the Kontakt 5 Page from the front page, but there is one to Kontakt 5 Player.
Because you have to login to see the cross grade list, which as I am eligible for, when I log in I can't see the cross grade list.

Seems that a lot of libraries only work on the full Kontakt5, which really was my starting point for this whole discussion. I had Kontakt player, but found quickly that it was limited! That is my typical process. Get the ‘essential’ version, then make up some reason as to why the limited version is holding back my creativity!

NI sells many instrument libraries for Kontakt Player themselves. But I think that the reason most 3rd party instruments are not Player compatible is that the developers have to pay NI a license fee to use the Player. So these instruments can get a bit expensive due to the extra licensing. Most of the free or cheap 3rd party Kontakt instruments are offered for the full Kontakt only. You pay the license for the full Kontakt application, and then anybody can create a library for it.

But every year I follow this thread!! Don't know why.
I don't know why either. I have avoided this money pit for years. But I am probably the closest I have ever been to pulling the $124.50USD trigger for the crossgrade before the end of the month. I avoided it during the sale last year, but I am trying to work it into the budget this year. Mainly by postponing the upgrade to Studio One 4.
