Printing Notation
MC5 claims that there is a way to print sheet music from the staff view. The help file said that there is supposed to be a file option for printing. There isn't one. Am i missing something or is Cakewalk just blowing smoke on this one?

You should be able to print, but i still suggest that unless you just need very basic lead sheet that you go with a dedicated notation program.

Fiddlebuster,
With the staff view being displayed, click on the "FILE" option on the main menu bar. Way down on the bottom of the pop-up menu you will see three small arrow heads in a small gray band. Click on one of these and a print options pop-up will be displayed.
For a quick printout of the staff information this works quite well.

also, no one has mentioned yet, notation priting is ONLY for MIDI tracks, not AUDIO. some people don't understand that and get confused by the wording on the box.

Thanks i found it. However I did discover that you can print notation for audio tracks too you just have to manually input the notes. You can also print more than one track on a sheet for a score layout. It seems to work very well. Again thanks for the help you guys are great.

I did discover that you can print notation for audio tracks too you just have to manually input the notes. Semantics. That would be MIDI. ;-) In the older programs the print function was plainly visible. I don't know why they hid it. Another note; any MIDI data you record with a keyboard will appear as played. It could look like a real mess unless you have perfect timing. Getting a presentable score requires a lot of editing, or using MIDI Quantize while recording. If you write the data in with the mouse, it should look fine.

You are correct I did not think of that. Semantics schemantics, It worked lol. or at least got me on the "right track" I have seen what you mean about the timing. I copied some measures to another track and put them in the wrong place. Looked like musical confetti. however a simple drag and drop fixed it. Got lucky there.

If good-looking scores are what you're after, you can set MIDI Quantize to a specific note resolution and when you record, it will place the notes in the closest spot to what you set the resolution to. So if you have it set to 1/4 and hit the piano key at 1:138 instead of 1:000, the note will still get placed at 1:000.
Reduces the amount of editing you have to do.

One other feature that's sort of hidden is the ability to add chord symbols like you would see in a jazz real/fake book. To Add a Chord Symbol Click the Draw tool  . Select the Chord tool  . Position the pointer above the staff (the pointer changes to a pencil when you are in a legal position). Click to place a chord symbol. Music Creator inserts a copy of the most recently added chord (by default, C). You can then edit the symbol to display the chord you want. There is a drop down list of chords available and it's comprehensive. Its nice to put together a melody using the staff and add the chord symbols above the staff just like real sheet music.
