Printing staff view
Hey all, I can't remember the best way to go about this but IIRC I exported to XML and opened it with some program I no longer have (after a fresh Win 7 install) and it printed fine. 1st problem is when I try to export the file, Sonar Platinum crashes with kernelbase.dll showing as the fault module. 2nd problem is, I can't remember the dang (free) program I had that displayed the XML properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Randy

Finale Notepad will import music xml 2.0 (not used myself). Other option might be something like print to PDF using cute pdf driver (also free). I've done this with previous versions, not Sonar 2015.

Finale Notepad will import music xml 2.0 (not used myself). Perfect, I just installed it and looks more functional than whatever I used before. Other option might be something like print to PDF using cute pdf driver (also free). I've done this with previous versions, not Sonar 2015. I'll just use the free Finale if I can get Sonar to export the XML...but does cutepdf use XML also? I wonder if the xml export is crashing Sonar due to me not having some kind of codec I don't have on my work machine. Thanks again Brando, Randy

Another great freebie is Musescore. I believe they import both Midi1 and XML files. Version 2.0 just came out!

No - Cute pdf is strictly a PDF print driver - I've used it to "print" PDF file versions of notation from earlier versions of SONAR - it worked well at the time but haven't tried this in a while. It won't help you on your XML problem - and neither can I - sorry don't have a clue. I just tried to export a single Midi track to music XML from staff view in SONAR Plat (Dorchester) 64 bit and it seemed to work correctly with no errors. So other than to say it seems to be something specific to your DAW, I don't know enough about the format to be able to help you out. Hopefully somebody else will be able to jump in and help you figure it out. Best of Luck Randy.

Thanks Brando, I installed Musescore 2 (thanks Michael) and it did a decent job of interpreting the midi file... the cool thing about it is if something isn't right, you can fix it. Still curious as to why I can't export xml though if anyone has suggestions. Thanks again guys, Randy

Why don't you print from Sonar? It is TINY but it is still there in Staff View.
"Edited spelling" New Tag line so I won't have to keep typing this. I may or may not have edited this yet, but I probably need to. < Message edited by MArwood -- 3/02/2525 3:45:05 AM >
