Private Music Lessons Going Corporate and Nationwide - Thoughts?
Talk about EVERYTHING going big and corporate. Interesting ..... ( I talked to Bapu about this subject all ready ... all he said was welcome to 2011 get on board.... which made me think ...like of course I would get deep insightful thoughts from him? insert eye roll) moving on........ I sighed up to be a teacher at privatelessons.com You have to have at least a bachlors degree in music .... and they only take like 8% of applicants. (so they say) They interview you over the phone - do a background check - and you have to do an hour "webinar" with them - where you set up a mic to a computer and talk to an intructoor over the web as she gives an introduction orientation - about pay - and scheduling students and communication the students pay takelessons - take lessons then pays the teachers twice a month based on the number of students you have - and find the students for you they are telling me they will start me with between 2 and 7 students within a month and build off of that its NATIONWIDE - all states ......(home base is in California) go to Takelessons.com......type in instrument you want to learn and a zip code - and a list of teachers comes up - you call takelessons.com and hire them well - I am a music teacher - so I am on board - profile needs to be edited a bit - -- BUT - I can't seem to get to some of the fields o to be able to edit them - here it is >>>> http://takelessons.com/profile/paul-d what are you thoughts on this....... are we heading away from EVERYTHING BEING corporate and you cant even find music lessons in a MOM AND POP atmosphere?

Except when they post on Craigslist these type of ads get flagged pretty quickly as SPAM, and competing with local lessons

Yes, but Paul is real and he has "a whole studio in his living room" Let's see CJ do that.* *Without a stock photo.

To actually reply to the original post - I find it very difficult to believe that anyone will ever be able to take away the value of the face-to-face, one on one music teacher, there's simply too much subtle information conveyed by eye contact, facial expression, and so forth. Little tiny details about (in the case of guitar) angle of the hand, pressure of the grip, placement reference the frets - the ability to reach over and take the students hand and correctly place it....... endless details. Certainly the web has made certain things more accessible - but we're not so "virtual" yet as to be able to whack a hand with a ruler... (well, maybe an electric shock triggered by the instructor? )

Everything going big and corporate? Well, it's the internet age, so I guess people figure they can find everything online. Just don't take any piano students from Roach, MO, K? Not sure if you want proof-reading, but here's what I came up with with a cursory read-through: Fix this somehow: (your should be you're, but it also needs another word or two.) This is the foundation of what your going to build your technique and music theory skills. Here, add an apostrophe at the end of students. Insert a hyphen after up (up-coming) students current music for up coming performances. And by the way, I hope this goes really well for you and that you also get some local students too. :-)

The student comes to the teacher in their home/apartment. The online part is just to make the contact. Of course, being a stupid face, I may have this all wrong.

trimph1 How do dese lessons work anyhow?..... yes of course stupid face has it all wrong if teacher is hired ..... Private lessons schedules the teacher students off of the available times the teacher gives them - the student pays the web site - monthly for the lessons - the web site or company pays teacher through direct deposit - journals and communication to the web site are done by both student and teacher - and yes stupid face does have the part right about student meeting at teachers home or teacher will travel to students home - and they make the initial contact

You're adapting to the corporate environment rather quickly there, Moochie. if he wants to know how lessons work - they work like this - to play an "A" note above the staff use your pinky finger on the high E string on the 5th freet and pluck the string OK - thats how a lessons works stupid face PS...... Keep your thumb behind the neck in the middle ... don't let it hang over the neck like Clapton does... you want to play better than that -- he slept with too many women
