Pro Channel Console Emulator sounds like darth vader

I have just about given up on using the console emulation in prochannel.  Running Win 7 64  and 64 bit X2a. When I attempt to insert the prochannel console emulation it turns vocals into a bad imitation of darth vader and unusable.  Anyone else run into this? Since I have UAD SSL/Neve and also Slate VCC I am just using those instead.

Something is wrong then. The emulator is just a visualization of a analog circuit. Its effects are subtle. It could be you are driving it too hard. What are your wave files like? Are they very hot?

Could it be that you're overloading the ProChannel to begin with and that sticking a console emulation at the end of it, with the trim turned up, is just breaking everything up? I suffered from nasty distortion using the CE on synths until I "got" the whole ProChannel gain staging thing.

darth vader, lol,i thought you were having a laugh but then realised it ACTUALLY is making it sound like darth vader!

No idea, I mean I struggle to even hear any effect with the console emulator. Maybe it is severly overloaded, or hey it could be a bug.

Gain-staging is crucial when working with the Pro Channel. You don't want any of its little red "LEDs" to light solid red, ever.

sorry couldn't resist. I have searched my feelings and I know this to be true. Beepster these aren't the presets your looking for........

I don't have that problem. sounds like the signal is to hot or there is distortion coming from some where. It should be a very subtle effect like John says

It only does this if I insert the console emulation module. I understand gain staging quite well. This will do this sometimes when only the console emulation is on. This is not a nasty digital distortion sound.  It actually sounds like a modulated signal 2 octaves below with distortion as well.  The signal is not too hot. It works just fine with Slate VCC and UAD SSL/Neve channel strips. It is intermittent so I don't know what is causing it.  Having said that, I inserted it in a new project today and it worked fine.  The force must be with me today ;)

I tested Console emulation from Cake side by side with VCC and NLS. I am using Cakewalks emulation as I think it sounds the best, especially Neve setting is hard to compare. But dont forget that prochannel modules has some problems after restarting project. For example if you have inserted UAD effects in FX chain directly in the prochannel module, sometimes it not working, sometimes the sound is strange so you must disable and enable those plugins. Hope next update on X2 will solve this.
