Pro Channel Tape Sim / Console emulator analyzed. (Audio geekery alert)

Curiosity got the best of me this morning. I pulled out the D-Scope & analyzed the Frequency response & THD+N of the Pro Channel Tape Sim / Console emulator.

Cheers Eric, very interesting. Do you have a graph for Sonar without either of those effects on for cross reference?

Certainly, the console plots seem about what you'd expect: relatively flat for SSL, bass-heavy for Trident.

Frequency response would just be a flat line & 0% THD+N

Yeah, that's what I was assuming. Does that bear out in practise? I suppose it would.

To partially answer my own question re the origins of the tape sim, this document by Cakewalk indicates that it was done by Overloud:

Do Overloud reps ever post here?  Perhaps they could talk about the creation of the tape sim. (what modeled and how)   I (and I expect others) find stories like that very interesting.

(It could also help sell the producer upgrade given that other tape sims cost as much or more as the studio-producer difference.)
