Trying PT for the first time with the 1.5 Win. demo. So far the pros: downloaded, installed & authorized in 30 minutes. The cons: crashed in the first 10 minutes..

Yeah, what a nightmare that install was. The Ilok software had a hiccup and sent a lot of people to bed with corrupted files and no access to the software. I was pleasantly surprised this morning, after a few hours, my service ticket at ilok took me to the top of the list and they sent me the activations I needed. Crisis averted or let's say time to resolution was acceptable. The first thing I was amazed with in PT 11 x64 was the increased overhead. A large project that ran around 28% of CPU resources is down to 12% in x64. I am missing all my plugins however and will have to wait for them to be released over the next 6 months as companies complete their AAX versions. I think this version is a going to be a little rough around the edges for awhile but there were many more changes than I expected for the Native version. No problems with 3rd party hardware, that was my biggest concern. That front appears to be smooth however.

Be careful updating your iLok!! Lots of people are having their existing licenses disappear off their iLok!!! Many people have been stalled for over a week!! I suggest you wait till they get it figured out.

Well, not a week. If you put in a support ticket they are jumping on those first. So save yourself some stress. It took about 4 hours between entering the support ticket and resolution for me. I did lose the authorizations however as you say. They removed the old ones but would not allow entering the new ones. All resolved. But what a hassle which turned a 30 minute install into a day.

The iLok alone is enough reason to never use Pro Tools. It is completey dangerous if you are a pofessional user with deadlines to use the iLok for anything at all. If it prevents you from doing anything or completing any project on time or creating even the slightest amount of stress then it should be avoided at all costs. I have been teaching Pro Tools in a lab where the teacher machine and a few student machines went down with their iloks and completely stopped everything. (for days and days) It is also sad that you cannot use most of your plug-ins any more and have to wait for AAX versions. If they come. For every single thing the ilok is involved with there is an alternative which is equal in every respect or superior that does not require it. But apart from all that PT11 is allright. I still think Avid is an expensive option. It does not stop there. In another year you will have to spend another $300 or so just to keep using the program when PT12 comes out.

Well, I'm glad you got yours resolved quickly. However there's a thread going on GS right now and if you read through it, there are people who were saying that it had been 8 days and they still can't authorize PT or their plugs. Just didn't want anyone here to have to go through all that.

vintagevibe Why is it that I can get Pro Tools 11 for $699 or Eleven Rack with Pro Tools 11 for $699? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ElevenRack/
I saw that also VV...it's a smokin' deal if you're after PT....you get a FREE Eleven rack...that's a no brainer for sure...the Eleven Rack it pretty nice...not the best..but it is nice...you get the Eleven Rack Plugin with PT... Carl, the ad page says "Optimized for Windows 8" so I'm not sure...but here's what happened to me.. Well, I got everything installed on Win 8 and it crashed instantly before it ever opened.... then I realized that I hadn't set it to run as admin....so, after that it ran...and then I loaded a session...just to look at it....closed the session ...and it crashed... So I restarted...loaded a session and realized that it was not seeing my Quad Capture or the Asio Driver.. and it crashed...blah blah blah...ad naseum... Not for me....If they get a patch out before the 30 day trail is up I'll install it and try again... but, as of right now....it's useless to me...I did all the tweaks and twaks, and blah blah blah...crash and burn... At least Sonar will work...LOL

Didn't run very well for me either, had a few more crashes & stopped. Like you say maybe a patch needed. I'll just wait & see until the demo is up then restore my last bu. I looked at the requirements, the link went to PT10 10/18/2012 BTW.

I had some hiccups with the iLok installer last week, but got them sorted out earlier this week. Got my PT11 upgrade from Sweetwater yesterday and I'm really loving the new features. I'm experiencing at least one major bug with it (PT11 crashes whenever I try to assign ins/outs with a capital letter - weird!), but Avid has been all over it and I'm guessing that it will be patched long before all of my third party plugins are 64-bit AAX (i.e., when PT11 is actually usable for me).

I have had those same thoughts and I have sent numerous emails to the guys at Avid begging them to drop ILok. When it goes wrong, you are down for days. No phone number just the ticket system. It's really frustrating.

I know there are a lot of programs that really don't like the Quad-Capture drivers...and PT11 is probably one of them....hopefully the patch comes out soon so that I can try it again...interested to see where it's going..
None of my IK Stand Alones will work with the QC Drivers on Win 8...they work fine in X2, and my others, but not outside of a DAW... And IK could care less....=(

VSL updated VEP5 & that solved my crashing issues. "We have just released a new public beta of VEP5, which fully supports AAX Native 64 in PT11. All other software has also seen 64-bit AAX updates and are currently being uploaded to our servers."

VV are you on Win 8 or Win 7? I'm on Win 8 Pro...and, while they work fine IN a DAW (as a VST) the Stand Alone IK Products (all of them) don't recognize the QC Driver.... ALL of my other Stand Alones..NI, etc....have no issues...just the IK stuff..
PT11 did not see my QC driver at all....and, it would crash and burn before I even got to really do anything....it would crash and burn just closing a project...
That's enough issues right out of the gate for me to say "wait and see"

I'm running 5 different DAW's....2 of them are 32 bit.....ALL of them see the QC Driver...
PT 11 would not see the Driver, IK Stand Alones, 32 or 64 bit, do not see the driver...
Sounds to me like a programming issue on the part of the Vendor...NOT with the QC Driver.. Just wanted to clarify that...

I'm on Windows 7 so maybe it's Win 8 related. To be honest I rarely use my IK libraries since they are still 32 bit. Do you have the latest Win 8 Quad Capture drivers?

Yes VV...it's version 1.5.1.....I'm sure it's more to do with the coding by the vendors then with the QC Driver itself... ALL my other DAW's and Stand Alones work perfectly fine...and most still haven't even been updated for Win 8 yet...

I have been testing it all week, I have an eleven rack. I have had a crash with every project I have worked on. A patch is definitely needed. I feel like a beta tester and they are sending reports back with every crash. Also no window for Eleven Rack in PT 11, That sucks. The Eleven Rack Guitar Window is not available in Pro Tools 11.0 ( PTSW-184398)Pro Tools 11 does not currently provide the Guitar window for Eleven Rack. As a workaround, use Pro Tools 10.3.6 co-install. Too Funny!

i have to wait for all my 3rd party developers to release AAX v2 in order to use PT 11. for me that means.. No Superior Drummer. No Kontakt 5. No Amplitube. No UAD-2. i don't see any reason to release a x64 DAW, if the top 3rd party companies don't have AAX v2 ready. seems like a lot hoops to jump through and sacrifice, just for "a more efficient audio engine(?), fast bounce, and new metering". i'm gonna sit this one out for as long as need be..

Cakewalk went through this same experience years ago when they released their x64 version. Few available plug ins. Regarding Superior, they announced Monday that they would have Ezkeys, EZDrummer and Superior Drums possibly by this Friday but definitely within 2 weeks. UAD is critical for me. Really can't mix without those. They announced they would have all of their plugins ready in 2013, that means it won't be soon. Regarding the comment about waiting to release when AAX is ready from other vendors. It was never going to work that way. Plugin vendors really don't want to have to make the investment and many companies were waiting to see if Avid would ship before committing resources and a timeline. First the horse, then the commitment to buying feed.
