Pro Tools F***ed

Installed Pro Tools First after sitting on my drive for a couple of months.  This is almost as bad a Pro Tools Free back in the 90's.
It's a weird and half assed way of introducing people to software.  It's "garage band like" in click this and pay please. Despite being the industry standard I'm sure they are at the bottom of getting new users.

They should take a look how Presonus creates a free version.

Hopefully there is a restore point in Windows so I can remove this mess.

Is that the one that you have to buy a $70 add-on to use VSTs?

    Bob,

You are right as far as my understanding is current.

You got Studio Artist whatever that has a neat inner core of effects, but the carrot in front of the nose is, upgrade and you can use third party vst's, which they have locked you out of until you fire up the plastic card.

All honesty, upgrade or purchase of Studio One 3 is entirely worth the expense. These are the first guys to incorporate a fully modular synth and/or audio routing matrix native into the program. Reaper, Sonar cannot touch this function without relying on external programs to fill the shortfall that they cannot handle.

Richard wisely advised to look at Studio One. More hardcore critical if you are a keyboard player. Sonar takes care of us state of the art, nothing else needed if you are a guitar banger or requiring support from an audio source.

    Love to all,
    John

This thread wasn't meant to be how great S1 is and you should but it but how crappy Pro Tools intro version is. No other Daw developer creates anything that bad.
I used System restore to remove all traces.  There are 5 installed functions to use Poor Tools F***ed.

The problem with "Pro Tools First" is that it relies on the cloud for everything and it seems like the cloud is over-loaded and slow. Ditto for the "Avid Application Manager" which runs when you boot your computer and looks for updates for Pro Tools. I have found that disabling "Avid Application manager" from your Windows startup solves a lot of the problems. You can always manually run "Avid Application manager", on-demand, from your start menu to check for updates.

OTOH, The paid version of Pro Tools 12.2 is pretty good. There is a steep learning curve and entirely different workflow. Pro Tools is all about getting the job done fast with keyboard commands. The mouse is used for most operations  but some seeming-simple things need keyboard-only  commands that are hard to remember when you are first learning. Pro Tools is deep and reminds me of where Sonar 8.5 was heading until they dumbed it down with the X series.

I don't doubt that. Their First edition would turn off more people. Presonus, Reaper and Abelton do a better job.

Same here. Really pissed with protools first. It keeps crashing and nothing seems to work properly. Had it deleted. What a waste of time. Back to Splat.

It's garbage . Although studio one free is limited,  what they give you works.  Pro tools is useless
