ProChannel Compressor

Hi all, its been a while since i worked with CW ProChannel. was just trying out with a couple of voice overs i did recently.

on the PC 76 U-Type Comp, i noticed that after making settings with the knobs, the level of the speech seems to increase. is this the normal characteristics of the comp? the levels seem to all level out at around 0dbFS; occasionally they go beyond (in red) to about 0.4 max. i do find this strange as compressors are supposed to lower levels not increase them. any advice all? many thanks and cheers!!

settings as follows:
Input: 9.1
Attack: 1
Release: 250
Output: 0
Ratio: 4
Full Wet

all other sliders at unity

EDIT: Ooops left out...... gain reduction target 4db max

The PC 76 U type is a fixed threshold compressor.

Basically using a variable threshold compressor you lower the threshold to make compression take place. With a fixed threshold you increase the input level to make compression take place.

That is why the level increases, use the input and output controls to balance between the required compression and output level. I've constructed a PC preset that I use for voice over work. If you'd like to try it PM me but it does use the CA2A which is excellent.
