Problem Using Tascam UH-7000 with Sonar 8.5

I am trying to use my Tascam UH-7000 with Sonar 8.5 but am having the following issues:

1. I am unable to select 48 KHz sample rate and/or a bit depth of 24 bits for my Sonar project. I get this message from Sonar: "The default audio format is not compatible with one or more sound cards. It has been reset to 44100 Hz (16 bit), as suggested by the driver." So I am only able to set 44.1 KHz / 16 bits when using the Tascam UH-7000 with Sonar 8.5.

2. When I try to select ASIO as the driver mode for my project, I get a message from Sonar that the Tascam UH-7000 is not available for ASIO driver mode. I can only select WDM driver mode for the Tascam UH-7000.  My Tascam UH-7000 shows in the list of drivers in WDM mode only, not ASIO.

Why is this happening? Is Sonar 8.5 not supported by the Tascam UH-7000? I read that Sonar X3 is supported and works fine with the Tascam UH-7000 but what about Sonar 8.5?

How do I fix this problem?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I would like to add that I am on Windows XP and am also using a Delta 1010 sound card (yeah I know it's old but it was working solid for me until the UH-7000 came, which brings me to why I hate upgrading stuff that's already working).  Is my problem of not being able to select ASIO due to the fact that I have two sound cards in my system?  Does ASIO allow only one sound card to be used in a project at a time?

If I want to use two sound cards, I heard that the ASIO4ALL universal driver is an option.  What do you think of ASIO4ALL?  Is it a good, low latency driver?  And is it really an ASIO driver or just WDM pretending to be ASIO?

Almost always, yes.

Results are hit and miss. Works like a champ in some systems, really screws up with interface performance in others.

Don't know if the UH 7000 has an ASIO driver, but if it does and works with SONAR X3 it should also work with 8.5. Remember, to choose an ASIO driver when 2 or more audio interfaces that has an ASIO driver are on your system all inputs/outs for any other audio interfaces must be unselected (under Option/Audio/Drivers tab) to be able to select the inputs/outputs for a different audio interface.

If the UH 7000 doesn't have an ASIO driver, that's bad news. I was strongly considering getting one this Friday. I hope AT sees this thread and chimes in because he has one of these units.

It has ASIO 2.0, WDM (MME), and Core Audio drivers.

You probably need to uncheck the delta ASIO drivers, check the TASCAM drivers, and then open and close.  Just as ASIO will only allow one set of drivers, SONAR won't automatically move the 2nd driver up.  So SONAR switches back.  Or that is the way it used to work.  And that is also probably why the sample rate won't stick - although you have to turn that to your wanted rate in the TASCAM panel, too, I believe.

Ah, Tom, just saw your second pp.  Yes, I've been in NYC for a little R&R.  Just got back.

Re: Problem Using Tascam UH-7000 with Sonar 8.5 2016/04/28 00:07:24 (permalink)
I got the ASIO working now!  Thanks everyone for your help.  Really appreciated!

Here's what I did:  First I selected ASIO driver mode.  Then I unchecked all references to Delta 1010 ASIO in the Drivers tab, leaving only the UH-7000 drivers checked.  And finally I selected UH-7000 drivers for the Playback Timing Master and Record Timing Master, and I could now select the desired sample rate (48K) without Sonar resetting it to 44.1K.  The bit depth is fixed at 24 bits and could not be changed but that's alright because that's what I want.

I think the reason why I previously could not set the sample rate to 48K was because my UH-7000 was in WDM driver mode and I guess it only has 44.1K available in that mode.

Now the only problem is how to be able to use both my Tascam UH-7000 and Delta 1010 in ASIO mode.  I may have to use ASIO4ALL to do that.  But in my search for a solution, I saw this Odeus ASIO LInk Pro driver which might be another option:

http://odeus-audio.com.au/Odeus/AsioLink

Although, this is described as a multi-client "audio routing solution", so I'm not sure if it can also allow me to use multiple sound cards in one application which is what I want to do.  Anybody tried this driver?  What do you think of this?

Only one ASIO driver can be used at a time.

The only way I know of to use 2 or more audio interfaces when using ASIO is to connect the other/s audio interfaces to the one using the ASIO via inputs and outputs on the audio interface using the ASIO driver.

For example. connect one or more of the outputs of the Delta 1010 to one or more of the inputs on the UH 7000.

It sound like that driver you linked to is for enabling to use in multiple clients an audio interface using an ASIO driver or WDM driver. I reckon it's something like the feature in SONAR to "Share drivers with other peograms," but on a larger scale.

@AT:

Hi AT, I hope you enjoyed your R & R.

AT, I wonder if Tascam have released any driver update that makes the UH 7000 perform with any better low latency performance than what you reported when you 1st got the unit. And have you tried the unit in Windows 10 in WDM driver mode in SONAR. I'm wondering if the new audiostack/audio API and new MIDI API in Windows 10 helps the UH 7000 perform at considerably lower latency settings. The new audostack in Windows 10 is suppose to lower latency by 15ms right out of the box for WDM and WASAPI driver modes!

I'm strongly considering getting a UH 7000 Friday.

Thomas, had a great time in NYC.  My old Red Hook neighborhood from the 80s which looked like Berlin, 1945, and was crack headquarters, is happening now.

I got slightly better performance from the last update, but I haven't checked in a month.  And my computers (win 7 and 10) aren't connected to the internet, so I haven't updated them (or sonar) in a while.  It turns into an all-day affair.  Haven't had one.  Probably next week.  I can let you know.

Yes, one ASIO driver at a time.  That's what sucks about ASIO.

The Odeus driver won't cut it for my needs.  Like you said, it's for allowing multiple apps to share an ASIO or WDM driver.  I'll have to try ASIO4ALL then.

Well, AT, because of your speaking good about the UH-7000, I bought one from Sweetwater this morning, so I'll, personally, find out how it performs with the latest drivers and on Windows 10. :) I also ordered a Behringer X-Touch, the full sized one. Thanks for your reviews and input on the gear, AT. I'll see you around, man.

ASIO4ALL didn't work for me. I am unable to record and it makes Sonar grind to a crawl -- whenever I click the mouse there is a long delay before Sonar responds. Totally unusable!  There must be a good reason why ASIO4ALL is hated so much by many in this forum.
