Problem changing sample rate in X1D :Problem Resolved

So, I'm having problems changing the sample rate from within sonarx1d. Preferences>audio driver>asio tab,

I have had a stable system for years now on this laptop, wich is Win764bit

Recently i updated to x1d and added a Motu micro book 2 my setup wich updated the driver for my 828mk3 as well to version 4.0.53503

!i CAN change the sample rate from the Motu audio console app when sonar is not running!

Anyway I just want someone else to verify that they can change it from within sonar X1D, preferably some one with an 828mk3.

I just want some verification before I star serious trouble shooting...

The only thing I've tried so far was creating a new aud.ini file,

Thanks,

Problem resolved .. See last post...

So you can change your sample rate from inside sonar?

I just want to verify that I'm the only one with thus issue.,

I don't think it's hardware specific cause my focusrite also won't switch...

If anyone could try switching sample rates from inside sonarx1d I would appreciate it,

    Thanks...

Sample rates are per project so if it's already been recorded at 48 it will always open up 48. Make sure in your driver preferences your default sample rate for new projects is set to what you want. 44100, 48000, etc. Hit apply, then try creating a New project. Otherwise, mis-matched projects will have to be converted. (audio files specifically) Can't change mid-stream though, without some conversion.

No I mean with no projects loaded at all!!

    Just want verification,

So your saying that in X1d you have no problems switching sample rates from inside sonar?

    Thanks,

Like I stated before I have no problem switching sample rates in the Motu audio control panel only when I try to do it through the x1 preferences,

Woah, hang on. Like Blogman said, Sample Rates are Per Project, so if you don't have one loaded, you have nothing to set yes?

I guess I'm not being clear enough so I will walk you guys through it.

What I need is verification that this works..

    1, launch sonar X1D

2, do not load any projects

    3, then go to , Edit>preferences>audio driver

4, then hit the "asio" tab, this will open up your interfaces control panel..

    5, change the sample rate

Now when I do this it will change the sample rate for about a second or two, the clock will change, then lock then sonar hangs for about 10 -20 seconds, then it will revert back to the original sample rate, not the new one, ..

Can someone with win7 64 bit and x1d please try this??

Thanks guys, sorry if im not being clear enough  on an iPhone..

Also I know sonar and digital audio in general very well, this isn't user error...

Yep,  i can change the sample rate at will.

You do know that you cannot change the projects sample rate. what it was originally recorded/set at is what it is for ever. Unless you export each track out of sonar and re-import it into a "New' project.

The sample rate has to do with the clocking, so you cannot have 2 different sample rates for a project and you cnanot just change the sample rate of a project.

To change the smaple rate for a New Project, you go into sonar's preference menu and change the default sample rates for New Projects and every New project will be that sample rate

Cj: thank you, and yes I am aware of the fact that you can't playback audio recorded at a different sample rate, well some programs will let you but it will be played back faster or slower depending on the rates...

    Anywho..

If I remember correctly you also have some Motu products? Are you using the latest driver 4.0.53503

Upon loading Sonar, it will default to the sample rate of the last project open UNTIL you Load a project. If your last project was 48k, when you open sonar it will switch to that with no project loaded (probably assumes you'll work in that frequency). Once a project (new or old) has been loaded it will then switch to That projects frequency.

Cj: also do you have any experience with more then one Motu device installed on a system, in my case the 828 mk3 " FireWire only" and the micro book 2 "USB", any know problems having both on one system? Not using them at the same time off course although they will both run at the same time and have separate q mix windows...

Blog man: yes you are correct that is how it's supposed to work,

However like I have said, the sample rate will not switch from within sonsr x1d, it won't switch manually and it won't switch automatically either, it try's to switch then sonar hangs for about 20 seconds, and does nothing!!

I understand how sonar is supposed to work, that's why I come to the forum when it doesn't behave as expected ;)

What sample rate are you trying to change to? If its 96K and the device can't handle 96K, that could be the problem.

    3, then go to , Edit>preferences>audio driver

On this screen, what do you have the Default Settings for New Projects - Sampling Rate set to?

Also, are you running Sonar on the MacBookPro?

You should disconnect the Motu MicroBook while working on this because it could be introducing an issue. You should only be using one soundcard at a time. ASIO does not support more than one soundcard at a time.

Daveny5: default is set to 48, micro book is not connected nor is another audio device or internal sound cards, all sound are off and this is not the MacBook.

Like I said the only difference in my system was adding the microbook wich also updated the 828s drivers and the x1d update, so basically I just wanted to see if

1, if anybody else experienced this with x1d

2, if anyone else experienced this with the newest Motu drivers

So, it has to be one of the other I was just looking for a direction, either I'm honna reinstall sonar or reinstall/revert the Motu drivers

But also my focusrite Safire pro24 also will not switch sampling rates since I have updated to x1d, that is why I thought sonar was the culprit. We have a Roland octocapture here at my work and some other interfaces I might try as well but first  gonna try to reinstall the Motu stuff and see if that fixes it...

    Re:Problem changing sample rate in X1D 2012/06/12 14:46:38 (permalink)
We switch all the time between 44.1 and 48 kHz. I just checked, and I have Sonar set to default to 44.1. With no project open, I can go to preferences and open my RME RayDAT control panel and change the sample rate to 48 kHz. As long as I don't close the Sonar preferences, then the sample rate will remain at 48. But as soon as I close the preferences, the sample rate switches back to 44.1. The RayDAT is set to internal clock. (I did a quick scan of the thread but didn't see... is your MOTU set to internal or external clock?)

And also, whenever we load a project, the sample rate will switch automatically to whatever rate the project is set to.

This is at my work studio. At my home studio I have an 828mkII, and a 2408mk3 I can test if you still need more info. But I'm not sure when I can get to it.

Sonar is not supposed to switch it manually. You create a Project (with the sample rate set at this time to whatever your default sample rate for new projects' is set to. In other words, you don't change the sample rate from your asio preferences at all, you do it as mentioned above. Until you open a project, it will only show the last projects sample rate.

It works as expected here - I can change sample rate freely, both using ASIO & WDM drivers

I don't think you're pickiin up what I'm layin don here. You're post is about problems changing sample the sample rate in sonar x1 d yes? Sounds to me like you're trying to change the sample rate of Sonar via the preferences, driver settings, asio panel? (with no project open) yes? And it doesn't stay on what you set it? right? I guess my question is are you having problems with creating and loading projects of different frequencies or does it just bother you that the preferences don't stay after you change them (with sonar open and no project loaded). If you set it to 48, close sonar, re-open sonar, it will set to 44.1 if your last actually Loaded project was 44.1 regardless of you trying to 'switch' the frequency prior to loading a project. This isn't hardware/software issue, just the way it works. Just trying to help.

Blog man: no, the problem is that it reverts back regardless of what the default is set to... And when I load a project at a different sample rate, say 48 to 41 it will switch for a second hang for about 20 seconds then go back to 48... Then the project dosnt play back...

Cj: I was happy with previous drivers as well but had to switch cause I added the micro book...

I havnt had time to work on this issue since yesterday, so tomorrow I'm gonna try a few things and hope it works,
