Problem editing clips when an envelope is created

This is frustrating... and again probably simple to solve but when I do some automation in a track (volume normally) my mouse pointer has the envelope symbol next to it and I don't know how to get rid of it! So I cannot edit, move or loop a clip once the envelope is created. The onlt thing that can be editied is the envelope itself. Can someone put me out of my misery? Thanks

If I've understood correctly, I think you need to choose "Clips" in the Edit filter, although, I'm not sure how you got into envelope edit mode without using the edit filter.

The quickest way to change, and possibly how you got to envelope mode without knowing how, is to shift+click on envelope/clip - changes the edit filter from one to the other. Very fast way of changing editing focus.

Thanks, that's brilliant. I'm gradually picking up these shortcuts. When I read about them I can't separate the useful ones from the ones I might never use, so I forget them all
