No problem at all. I am glad to help. As far as deleting things to get memory, that is not what does it, In your computer you have a Ram chip, It could be 256 or 512 or what ever it is, and that could be the issue. XP takes up the majority of a 256K ram chip to function, leaving very litle left for programs, so if you do not have at least 512 then the system will suffer when processing audio and softsynths, effects and the like. Also a slow CPU (central Processing Unit) or the main chip on the mother board, has alot to do with it.
For instance i have an AMD 2400+ Xp chip, it is the approximate of say an Intel P4 1800, some here are still using PIII machines, like 700 or 800 Mhtz, so if you have an older PIII and only 256K or ram, then it might not be enough to process without repeated dropouts, especially if the computer has a lot of background tasks to perform, like firewalls, popup stoppers, antivirus, Etc. One thing to do is find out the CPU speed, and the Ram amount, then turn off any antivirus and firewalls, then try again.
Another side note, on an older machine like a PIII with an older operatig system like Windows 98 or even 2000, and if you have a ton of ram it won't process it anyway cause it was not designed to carry that much, and it only recognizes so much after the first 128k or ram. and like i said if you upgrade the OS to XP then it is ram hungery and it still needs more. to start with you mentioned deleting things, if your hard drive is full or close to full that will slow things down as well, and also doing a defrag helps a bit as well.
