Problem with Hard drive, Please help!

Hi,
My hard drive is divided into two 20 gig partitions. C and D. I wanted to delete the D partition and let the C partition take up the rest of the space, so that in fact I would have one 40 gig C hard drive.

I deleted the D part but instead of getting rid of the partition it has kept it on as 'Unallocated space', taking up 20 gig! How do I get rid of this space so that the disk is just one C volume?

I'm using WinXP (hard drive management), FAT32.

Thanks for your help!

Windows XP can't re-size FAT32 partitions. You could upgrade the disk to NTFS, change it to a dynamic volume, and re-size the partition that way.

The best way would be to use a utility like Partition Magic though.

Would this be risky to convert to NTFS? I don't want to run the risk of losing any data. Is there anything I need to know before I try it?

What's the best way to do it?

One more thing - would I be able to do this more easily with partition magic?

    Thanks for your help!

    Back up your system!

Yes... You could leave it FAT32, change a couple settings, re-boot, and voila!

You'd probably still want to back up your system.
