Problem with audio dropouts in Sonar X3.

Hi,

First of all, this is my first post. Since I could not find an answer for my problem on other forums, I decided to post my own question. (Next to that, I am not a native English speaker, so apologies in advance for any mistakes in grammar/orthography.)
Please note that I have not got a lot of experience regarding Sonar, and please notify me if this question is posted in a wrong place, or anything of that matter.

My Current Setup:
SSD: Samsung 840EVO: OS and Sonar are located here.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda (1TB): Audio files and plugins here.
CPU: AMD-FX6300
MB: ASUSM5A99X EVO R2.0
SC: Roland Quad-Capture;
(routed to a Marantz PM5004;
to Speakers.)

I am experiencing some problems within Sonar X3. Whenever I try to play midi back with Kontakt 5,
it seems to have audio dropouts. So for example, I've got four midi tracks, all routed through Kontakt, and whenever I try to play them back simultaneously, the program "overheats" and an audio dropout occurs. I'm usually recording at 96Khz/24b. I've got a six core (amd) cpu, but it could be that Sonar is not making use of all the cores, since only one bar in the performance section is active most of the time. Perhaps this problem lies within the settings of Kontakt, or maybe it could directly be fixed within Sonar. I've tried a couple of different things to fix the problem, but it is not leading to any results. I've tried different buffer sizes, updating drivers, etc. Since I do not (really) have a dedicated hdd, i thought i might buy one, to see if that would help. (I'm currently running a 125gb SSD drive for Sonar, and a 1 TB HDD for plugins/audio, but also all the other daily files.) Next to that I am running 2x4gb DDR3 Ram, so I do not know if that could be a problem..? A lack of ram? I hope this problem is an easy settings fix, that would save me some bucks.

Thanks in advance.

    Check is the ThreadSchedulingModel setting in Preferences > Audio > Configuration File. It should be set to 2. To see this option make sure the Advanced Radio button is selected at the bottom of the Preferences dialog.

    @scook
    Hi, thank you for the quick reply! My tsm was indeed set to 1 instead of 2.
    The dropouts have reduced, however I'm still experiencing some dropouts.
    (I currently run 5 patches inside kontakt.) Maybe this has something to do with the settings inside kontakt?
    Do you have some more tips that might solve this problem?
    Thanks again.

    Could be Kontakt settings, could be other SONAR settings like Preferences > Audio > Sync and Caching File System Playback/Record buffers or interface ASIO buffers. High sample rates will test a PC config.

    Open for every midi track a new instance of Kontakt. In Kontakt set multicore to "Off". Set "thread scheduling" in Sonar to "2" and play with your buffer settings. Does it make a difference when you record in 44.1 KHz?

    Check your instruments for convolution reverb effects - and remove them. This kills your CPU and NI loves to stick them everywhere. If you need to use them just use one on an AUX bus.

    Thanks for the quick replies! I have now tried a couple of your suggestions, and it seems to work when I load them in separately, turned the multicore processing off inside kontakt and I now record at a lower bitrate/samplerate. (48/24 seems to work fine.) The "performance bars" have dropped down a bit more now.
    Still, if these kind of problems would occur again,would you suggest buying more RAM (I don't know if 8gb's plenty, or that the workflow would be a lot better if I bought 2 extra 4gb ram sticks..?)  or a third (dedicated) HDD?
    Thanks.
