Problems reinstalling
Hi everyone. I’ve been experiencing a few minor niggle with various soft synths in X2, especially the Pentagon & TTS-1. So I’ve completely removed all traces of all previous versions of Sonar, this included removing the necessary registry keys for each installed version. My intention was, and still is, just to have 64 bit X2 installed and nothing else. But, even after doing this, I still can’t get the 2 synths referred to above to gain any sort of functionality. They seem to install ok and both are available in the list of installed synths, but after installing them, I get the following behaviour: Pentagon – the “frame” of the synth opens but other than that, the GUI is totally blank. Closing the synth via the ‘X’ crashes Sonar immediately. TTS-1 – the frame of the synth opens ok, the GUI is displayed properly, the list of patches/programs are displayed but none of them sound. There is no Midi activity. Closing the synth again crashes Sonar immediately. So, any ideas people? I like to use these 2 lightweight synths when sketching out new ideas for projects, fully intending to replace them later on with either another synth or with actual recorded instruments. Thanks, Jonesey

Did you remember to check the "Run this program as an administrator" box in the SONARPDR.exe compatibility tab?

Thanks, Jonesey Hmmm... I had things going funny with X1 Essential (32-bit) and X2 Essential (64-bit) installed at the same time. I needed to eliminate the temptation to switch between 32-bit and 64-bit because neither have all of the same plugin-ins installed (including third party stuff). Here's what I did. Uninstall everything. Rename existing cakewalk projects directory to something Sonar won't recognize, say, 'c:\zzz cakewalk projects'. Delete Cakewalk Content directory. Go into "c:\users\'you'\AppData\...." and delete anything named cakewalk (AppData is a hidden directory). Run a registry clean. Run a 'clean-up temp files'. Re-install X2 Essential. Re-install any cakewalk libraries or instruments. Copy any projects I need from the old renamed project directory to the new one. Done.

Thanks for that Gene. I did make a start tonight, only for the install to fail at the very first hurdle because i think one of the downloads is corrupted, so I'm currently downloading them again which takes a while. Its 10pm here now so I won't be finishing tonight, looks like I'll be carrying on tomorrow. Thanks for your input though

Well, I've stuck with it and things appear to be improving. I've got a basic Sonar installed (still got to do Dim Pro, all the add-on packs, Pro channel modules etc, but Pentagon & TTS-1 are working!! Now, if only I can find the dll's for my T-Racks3 plugs.......

Almost everything in X2 works as advertised on my system, but I have this problem, too. I'm hoping that CW sees this and fixes it. May as well file a report with CW.

Ok, all fully reinstalled & working properly, apart from one thing. I've set up my usual custom keybindings, but the alt key isn't triggering them like it used to - it's triggering the Menu accelerators - anyone know what can cause this?

Interesting to here what you're going through Jonesey. I've been watching a couple of similar topics about re-installing X2 and also Windows 8. I'm almost ready to get myself a new 480gb SSD and start from scratch and at the same time hopefully sort out some of my minor gripes, as well as moving onto W8, which I'm hearing some good things about. How about licencing? Is that going okay? I'mm be installing onto a new drive so I am anticipating some licensing issues, not just with X2. Good luck with the rest of your install :-)

Licensing with Sonar is a piece of piss mate - even easier if your DAW is online as you can just copy & paste all the codes straight into the dialog boxes. Native Instruments are a bit of a pain, and if you're forced to work offline, IK Multimedia's system will reduce you to either tears or extreme violence. Most of the rest, in my experience are pretty straight forward. This is the first time my DAW has been online since September when I first downloaded X2

Thanks Jonesey. I've only got GR5, Battery and Absynth from NI and I use their own licensing centre software which appears to work okay for me. I'll just have to jump in there and see what happens. It's not as if my life depends on it...

Well now, I've gone back into the keybindings page, and all of the shortcuts which I DEFINITELY set up for use with the alt key are showing as not being bound to anything! SO I set them again and now it works. This is bizarre, and no, I did not use alt + shift or alt + ctrl before when they wouldn't work, it was just the alt key and whatever letter. I know these inside out simply because I've been using the same ones since version 6PE.

Question: somewhere, I have a Dimension Pro add-on pack but I can't find the installer. It writes the following folders to the Multisamples Folder: 32 - Rapture Scrapes 34 - Twisted Textures 36 - Twisted Modelling 37 - Twisted sfz 40 - Stabs and Hits For 10 bonus points, can anyone tell me which pack these come from? Thanks

Update: Pentagon has once again stopped working - all I get is the frame of the synth upon insertion. This is running As Administrator into a new, empty project TTS-1 will only work when inserting into a new project I feel like giving up totally and taking up jumping off cliffs, or lion taming, you know, something less stressful

I wish I could help but my DimPro installation is an accumulation stuff from Project 5 to X2. The libraries you mention above I thought came with Expansion Pack 1 or 2. There were a few things added from the SONAR 8.5 Producer Additional Content Disk (99 - Vintage Sound Library, Hollywood Edge FX and maybe a little more). My old installation had some REX files that must have been a Project 5 thing because they were not installed with DimPro 1.5 + Exp1,2,3. Some of the files are now included in the RXP libraries but not all of them. I ended up merging my old DimPro prog and multisample directories into the new installation. It is a real pain trying to get DimPro or Rapture back after a clean install. I kept copies of old installations so I could merge in the missing parts.

Mine weights in at 6.4GB (includes a few things from PatchArena). The 8.5 additional content is only a couple of hundred megabytes. Did you reinstall the DSF Strings freebie? That is 1.65GB. Do you have your old installation somewhere, on another machine or backup?

Yep, got the DSF installed. I've got the old Multisamples folder (I renamed it before doing the re-install) but I can't locate any more installers. These aren't just wav's that I can drop & drag are they - they need the installer to work properly, at least that's my (limited) understanding

No installers needed. You can merge the multisample and programs directories. That is all the installers do. Copy the wavs and sfzs into the multisample directory tree, copy the programs into the programs directory tree and (if they do a complete job) delete the programs.lst file in the programs directory. The programs.lst file is rebuilt the first time you open DimPro (or press the F5 key in the browser if you do not previous delete the programs.lst). That is how I built my new install a few months ago.

No problem. FWIW, all the sfz engine synths work pretty much the same way. Session Drummer has a few extra directories for kits and midi loops. Rapture can have a few more pieces dropped in its ProgramData area directories. In every case that I have seen, the installers for CW sfz synths are just copying stuff, no registry entries or anything fancy.
