Problems to record a new guitar track
Hello, after installing the Braintree release I tried to record a guitar track in comping mode. I wanted to record a 4/4 bar. After recording I always got the same effect: There is a cut at 3/4 of the bars. So I got two pieces => 3/4 and 1/4. The last 1/4 piece is been set to the front and played first. So I have to change the positions of the two bars. Crazy! Is there anybody else with the same problem?

You have posted this in the correct forum. Maybe just keep bumping it.
Have you tried doing the comp in a new project?
Is the trk your trying to comp on a trk you have already recorded?

The only thing I have seen relating to an offset of this magnitude was resolved by disabling count in while recording. I am not sure if this is applicable in your case though.

...make sure time signature is 4/4. sounds like you are using 3/4. also if you are using comping, record the whole clip/punch first. I believe that you are supposed to turn comping on by selecting an area of a recorded take(s) and pressing Shift+Space, and Sonar will split the group for you and begin auditioning . I am sure someone will correct if I am in error, this is off the top of my head. Mel

I see exactly what the OP sees every time I loop record in comp mode - IF I loop without autopunch points being set. I have metronome enabled during record with zero count in. In the above, there is no way to stop outside of the loop, so the last take is a partial. Sonar is initially using the partial last take, so it is splitting the rest accordingly. I have another DAW with the option to discard final takes of loop recording if they are partial. I would like to see that option in Sonar, or maybe an option to initially have last full take selected, without splitting anything. If I set punch points inside the loop points, then I get a single, whole clip per loop. I don't like doing punches inside of loops. This almost invariably ends up with loop points set at places that cause mojo loss at each iteration.

I have never used loops/punch ins for recording, so that picture is definitely worth 1000 words. Thank you for taking the time to post that. The way I typically work is to practice a few throughs (looped) without tracking, but when tracking I manually start a few bars prior (no looping), so I can sync prior to the material I want to retain. Since the loop is off, I have never seen this tail issue. I have always been leery to punch at a precise retain/throw away spot, and with comping this is almost a thing of the past (is easy to make the loops bigger and chop off the ends now). Question... can't the tail from that last take simply be deleted before comping?

Thank you all for your answers. When I start outside the loop with no metronome the track has been recorded right. When I start with recording on the loop starting point with metronome it doesn't work. But - and that's strange: When I start recording on bar 6 all works fine with metronome and on bar 21 it doesn`t work - on the same track! Stupid!

Yes, the final lane can be quickly deleted, but the remaining takes remain split. It becomes fiddly to heal or attempt comping with the extra splits there. Zooming helps, but it's all extra steps when you think about. The irony is that the extra steps are induced by a process intended to make this quicker :) The effect can be lessened by letting the final, extra take run to just before the end of the loop. This makes small clips at the end that *might* be getting deleted or faded anyway. The option the other DAW has to discard the final take just happens to work really well for me.

Thanks for the clarification. I hopped over to the feature request and threw my vote on it. It is always interesting to see quirks that pop up only for specific work flows.
