Problems with Audio in Project 5

Hi all,

I can work with MIDI just fine in Project 5, but as soon as I import any audio I experience problems with skipping and glitching while playing back and recording. I have tried adjusting latency but that doesn't help. I am using my PC's RealTek as the audio device; I downloaded ASIO4all v2 to see if that was any better, and it actually seems to make things worse. CPU usage is only about 20% while running this project. I have already tried disabling virus protection software while running Project 5 and that didn't help either.

I can generally listen to CDs and other audio just fine on my computer, but I do occasionally run into skipping issues if I have other programs running. Don't know if this is related. Could the problem be my soundcard?

Thanks for your help!

I am using:
Pentium 4 CPU 2.93 GHz, 0.99GB RAM

The RealTek is a consumer audio card that isn't built to handle the kind of demands that a program like P5 will put on it -- it's built for listening, not recording.

You might want to consider spending $100 to $150 on a card that is designed for recording - EMU has a couple that are supposed to work well. Check over in the gear forum, there will be folks who may be able to help.

    Cheers,

    Russ

That is very strange. You are saying that the P5 softsynths function fine but if you insert an audio clip it begins to break up?

After you installed ASIO4ALL, what are your buffers/latency set at? What is your sample rate & bit rate? Does it still glitch if you set to 44100 and 16 bits?

Its possible that even WITH your ASIO4ALL software, the realtek may not be up to the pro audio demands.

Thanks guys. Yes, I have the sample/ bit rate at 44100 and 16 bits, and it's still skipping. I guess it's time to finally buy a decent sound card. Thanks!

I am using the Emu_1616 soundcard. P5's been working great for about 3 years with it, and since about 3 months, I get some glitching as well.

it's mostly when recording : I get glitches regularly, about every seconds (although it might depend on the tempo of the track), and I have serious glitching issues when listening (even on softsynths, but mostly on audio), increasing latency seemed to help for the playback part, but for recording, no matter which latency I use, I get this issue...

but I have no problem in either sonar Le (or in the demo of sonar7 I downloaded), or in Ableton Live.

if b rock should pop by
I believe he has some experience with heavy simultaneous midi traffic and audio glitching

Just a quick update--I bought an E-MU 0404 and my skip/glitch issue has vanished. Thanks for the help!
