Problems with Casio LD-80 drum pad midi input

I am new to this and need advice on how to correct the artifacts in recording this machine.
Although the drummer plays with a consistent intensity, the sounds triggered by the sampler (SD2.3) have a large dynamic range and the kick and snare in particular play a soft and very loud sample on sequential hits that do not replicate his drum pad input.  The Casio does not have a sensitivity adjustment.  Can I filter with SONAR to compress the midi input? Frequently, a single snare hit on the drum pad is recorded as two notes in piano roll.  How can I prevent or filter that out? Now, I am using a 25 ft midi cable to connect the drum pad to the EMU-1820m midi interface; the cable is all doubled up and tucked behind a cabinet as the drum pad is only 4 ft from the interface.  Are the errors caused by the long cord?  My google search says that signal should carry 50 ft.

A process can not be understood by stopping it. One must flow with it and become one.

Regarding the double midi hits - are you sending midi back to the unit from Sonar? If so, you must either shut off local control on the Casio, or, disable midi echo in Sonar.
