Problems with Guitar Rig 4LE (SOLVED)
Hi all. I'm a bit late to the game having just recently upgraded to X1. I'm having trouble with GR4LE. It's installed and activated. It opens as a plugin but there are no modules available and the path under 'Options' is greyed out. GR3LE works fine. I'm figuring that the install may be the problem and I've read that the update patches may fix things. Before I re-install I'm hoping someone can tell me where the default install location is. I can't seem to find it and the custom install option for X1 wants to put it under "Programs\Sonar X1 Producer". It then wants to create all of the sub folders that are typically under the 'Utilities' folder. GR3 is under "x86 Program files" and I'm assuming that GR4 is 64 bit so it should go under "Program files\Cakewalk\Utilities..." correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Paul BTW, I'm on Win7 Pro with X1 Expanded. The User Control Panel won't let me update my sig.

I am trying to understand the issue you are having. Beginning with Guitar Rig 4, it will operate in stand-alone fashion, but it is no longer by default usable asa plug in SYNTH. It is configured, by Native Instruments, to now run as an audio EFFECT. To get to GR 4 LE, insert it as an audio effect on an audio track, and you will be able to use it there. If needed, you could still open the properties in Plugin Manager in Sonar to tell it to also configure as a synth, for instance if you wanted to have some external midi-capable guitar pedal board, such as the Behringer FCB 1010 or whatever it is called. (To use the midi learn functions of Guitar Rig 4 or 5 you need to tell Sonar to configure it as a synth, then load it into your audio track as a synth and use a separate midi track to have the foot board as the input and the output set to GR 4 or 5). Anyways, just to get it up and going, try to plug it in the FX bin for an audio track as an audio effect, and it should work fine. Please post back with your results. Bob Bone

I AM inserting GR4LE as a plugin I just doesn't have any of the amps or cabs or FX modules. I'm pretty sure it's not installed correctly. That's why I was asking for the install location. I'm going to use the info John supplied and try again. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks everyone. Paul

If you are using a recent version of FireFox you will need to use the IE Tab addon, or get an older version of FireFox 3.something or use a different browser.

Hi - thanksfor explaining. On my system, I use Guitar Rig 5 Pro, but maybe it works the same for 4 LE, I don't know. My presets are located at: D:\Users\Bob\Documents\Native Instruments\Shared Content\Sounds\Guitar Rig 4 Please note that although I have my user folders located on my D: Drive the rest of the path is what was set by the install. I do not see where I can change that path as an option from within the program - it looks like that was handled in the install, and even there may have been automatic. Hope that helps, Bob Bone

Does it give you an installation option as to where the presets want to live? Bob Bone

I just looked again using a Windows Search term of 'Guitar Rig' and found folders for GR 3, GR 4, and GR 5 at: D:\Users\Bob\Documents\Native Instruments And that is in addition to the location I posted a minute or 2 back. Also, it looks like they changed some path mechanisms for the sub-folder structures at least between GR 3 and GR 4. For GR 4, the components (amps, effects, mic cabinets, etc) are contained in: D:\Users\Bob\Documents\Native Instruments\Guitar Rig 4\Presets\Component Presets While as I posted earlier the presets themselves are in: D:\Users\Bob\Documents\Native Instruments\Shared Content\Sounds\Guitar Rig 4 I hope this helps more than my earlier post, Bob Bone

I just use Chrome - anytime anybody mentions forum edits the ENTIRE community chimes in - it's been done to death. Please folks use a different thread for all of that, or better yet, get over it they know about it and complaining to each other won't fix anything. The above comment is intended to be read as subliminal, and not in any way meant to invoke any response - I am not sure however that Chrome supports entering subliminal text in this forum - DOH! :) Anyways, I hope the re-install works for you, I will check back it later on tonight and see if you posted any results, Bob Bone

Hi Bob. I'll look at Chrome. I ended up uninstalling GR4LE and doing a reinstall from the custom option of X1. The GR install location was different than before but appeared to correspond with what you guys are seeing on your setups. Now I can't get X1 to open. It keeps asking me for a registration number but won't take either the reg # for X1 or X1 Expanded! I'm going to do a little searching here before I do a complete uninstall of X1 and start over. Crap! I'll keep you all posted. Thanks. Paul

Try re-registering again, but this time running X1 as 'Administrator'. To do so, right-click on the icon for X1 and click on 'Run as Administrator' - then enter the registration code. Bob Bone

Thanks Bob. Yeah, that's a no go as well. I'm going to do a complete reinstall of X1 and see what gives. If that doesn't work I'll contact tech support. It does look like GR4LE is working though. I opened the stand alone version and it asked me to activate. That's a good sign. Thanks for all your help. I'll keep you posted. Paul

Paul... I am assuming you already went into Guitar Rig and went to options and did the Scan for new presets already so... question...have you searched your drive for the presets? This happened to me when I upgraded to Guitar Rig 5. No presets and the folder was empty so I looked for them found them and copied them to the correct folder did the scan and they all showed up. Native Instruments Support is not that great because it is all done by e-mail so I hope you can get Cakewalk to help here and they don't redirect you. Try this first though... I would first look in the folder where Presets should be. You can look directly (C:\Users\Name\My Documents\Native Instruments\Shared Content\Sounds\Guitar Rig 4 )and see if they are there or open Guitar Rig in standalone and go to, FILE< (upperleft corner)/IMPORT and see if they are there. You just want to see if they are there first. If empty search for *.KSD files and once you find them try copying them to the folder noted above and then go into Guitar Rig "OPTIONS" and Scan for new presets. John

Hi all. Well, I finally got it working. Here's what I did. I started by uninstalling X1 however the standalone version of GR4LE was left behind. When I got to that part of the X1 re-install it asked me to uninstall GR4LE but it did not re-install it! I had to go back and do a custom install and select only GR4LE. I let it install to the default locations. After all that GR4LE still did not work as a plugin or stand alone. I DID scan for presets but that made no difference. I then installed the update patches and that solved the problems. I now had all the amp and FX modules! I haven't tried GR4LE out yet but everything seems to be there. Thanks to everyone for your help and Chrome does seem to work. Look! I have paragraphs again! Paul
