Problems with MIDI

I've been having problems with MIDI and SD3 and my controller.   Sometimes when I record with SD3, I see the volume meter move, but there's no sound.

So today I wanted to explore Sonar X1 a little and clicked on the Browser to check out some loops  (I didn't want to mess with my controller; I wanted to see what sounds there are in MIDI with Sonar).  So I found a loop, dragged it into the track view, pressed Play and . . . no sound.    I see the volume meter moving, but there's no sound coming out.

So the problems I've been having with MIDI and SD3 and my controller may be in Sonar itself.   But I don't know what to do to correct the problem.

Have you made sure that the audio track associated with SD3 is pointed to an a PreSonus out or a master that goes to a preSonus out?
X1 does not do this automatically!

Also have you chosen a kit for SD3 to use?

But my problem is not just with SD3.   I have songs that I have already recorded.   I open the browser and drag and drop into the track view, and when I play, I can hear the instruments in my song, but I can't hear what I just dragged and dropped into the song from the Browser.  The volume moves with that track, but no sound.

Also, in the Browser when I click on Media, it has Audio Preview, which should allow me to click on whatever sample I want and it should play automatically.   It doesn't.

So the problem isn't just with SD3.   My problem is with MIDI in general.   I just tried to drag and drop a sample into my track view again (not from SD3 but from the Browser), and no sound - although I see the volume meter move up and down.

And the MIDI I/O doesn't say Presonus, although that's what my interface is.   It says "Firepod."   Don't know if that 's the same thing or not.

Can you give us a screen shots? This surely will help a lot.

Why are you trying to drop audio samples onto a midi track?  Man have you got MIDI and Audio intertwined!

I'm new at this.   But I've been watching Session 3 videos on X1 Producer and was doing exactly what they did.  I was following the video.   He dragged and dropped it and it created its own track and it played back.  I did it, and it didn't play back.   There was no sound.
