Problems with Vista and Audio settings.
I'm using Music Creator 3 and Fast Track Pro with USB. Fast Track Pro seems to be connected properly and I am hearing sound through my headphones. However, using Cakewalk and even Sony Acid, I arm the audio tracks, but I get no sound to pick up in the faders. It doesn't work with either program, so I tend to think it's a setting issue with Vista. Can anyone help? Thanks.

First of all, you'll need at least MC4 to work with Vista...

Ok, well I was pretty sure I got it to work a few months back. Guess I'm crazy. Still, even with Sony Acid, I know it worked, and it's not picking up any reading either... which still makes me think it's some audio/device setting in the control panel.

some people have gotten MC3 to work with vista, but not everyone with full capability. what soundcard are you using? if the onboard soundcard, look in your windows control panel and see if your mic input is muted or not and make sure the slider is up far enough.

I'm using the soundcard on the M-Audio device. There doesn't appear to be any apparent conflicts. Nothing is muted. I had this problem once before, so I know it can be fixed. It was just months ago. I get all sounsd through the headphones plugged into the m-audio device and on the computer it says it is "connected." I'll keep searching for the problem.

which m-audio device? we really need to know as much as you can give us in order to be able to help. with incomplete information we are just playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey! which model of m-audio device do you have? which driver mode are you using? do you have your onboard soundcard still operational or did you disable it?

Beag, he said above he has the Fast track Pro, here is the page http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackPro.html If you can hear playback from existing files, but no record volume it has to be one of very few things. 1. you do not have the audio record driver setup, go to options/audio and see what is listed under that heading. 2. The track is not setup to record from that device. 3. Your fader is down in the M-Audio/Delta mixer window. 4. Your mike is not working

You can right-click on the desktop MC icon, choose properties and the compatibility tab, set it to run in compatibility mode for XP. Disable the onboard sound card, even if there are no apparent conflicts. What driver mode are you using? If you're using MME drivers, you may need to do this: Please try the attached reset utility. If that alone fails, please go to your Windows Start Menu and click "Run". At the prompt, type or paste the following: %APPDATA%/CAKEWALK This will open a folder in Windows Explorer. Find the folder named "Music Creator 4". Right-click on it and choose "rename". Change the folder's name to the following: "Music Creator 4 backup" Launch Music Creator 4 again and allow it to recopy the application data. Before you launch MC4. Please download this driver mode utility. http://www.cakewalk.com/support/sonar/drivermode.zip You can use it to launch SONAR in a different driver mode such as MME. If by chance you are using MME, you shouldn't have to. The Fast Track should be able to work with WDM or ASIO drivers, so I may have posted an unnecessary fix. But that's what it sounds like, or something isn't set in the mixer, as Robo wrote.
