Problems with latency in soft synths.... It might be I'm just a newbie..

Hi everybody,

I'm having a Project that is really quite simple. It has 18 tracks of mono audio , 4 tracks of stereo audio.
I haven't really that many plugins, and I mainly use the BT compressor from nomad factory and the LP eq on my tracks.
For reverb I use to sub Groups for long and short With the REmatrix.

The problem is now that I am going to record some simple pianotracks using the TruePiano plugin, I get a long latency on the left channel and an even longer on the right, and this is present even With no playback of the audio. I think it can be as long as half a second.
When I turn of all FX, the latency is normal.

It annoys me because I've recently purchased a decent DAW With enough Power (I thought) to handle simple Projects as the ones I'm doing.
It can be that I haven't tweaked my settings good enough for my computer, but unfortunaly I'm a bit rusty now on all this computer Tech, so it might be that the problem is due to my lack of tweaking.

Any help and tips would be highly appreciated.

Change the precision in the Expert section of the LP EQ. The LP EQ adds to latency when the precision is set to anything other than Non-Linear.

It may be the LP EQ adding in some latency or another plug-in. Try the project without the LP and see what happens.

Both Rematrix and LP EQ have innate processes that create latency, simply because they need a longer stretch of audio to do their calculations.

If you have any of those plugins active anywhere in your project, Sonar will need to delay all the other tracks (including your "live" track) by the same amount in order to line everything up properly again.

If none of those plugins are in the actual signal path of the track you are playing live, you can tell Sonar not to delay the live track by hitting the PDC (Plugin Delay Compensation) button. This will then let Sonar ignore the delay compensation for any track that has input monitoring enabled.

Of course, if you have latency inducing plugins in the signal path of the track you're playing live (in the track fx bin or the master bus), this won't work. Fortunately, the LPEQ has a non-linear setting which stops it from inducing latency. Obviously, that will negate any possible benefit you might get from linear phase processing, but if you really need to use linear phase you can just switch back when you start the mixing phase.

All the answers above are correct about plugin audio lookahead being the source of the latency. Just to add, this is not the kind of latency a more powerful DAW can overcome, so don't worry about your hardware.
