Problems with latency

First up the specs: Win 7, Safire LE, Intel i3, Sonar X1 Producer Expanded

The problem I am having shows up in monitoring during playback, recording.

I set up everything and the monitoring latency is near zero.

I hit playback, and the latency goes to (and I'm guessing a bit here) around 50-100 ms. If I open and close the audio preferences window the latency goes back to normal.

I don't have this problem with my other DAWs (primary Ableton Live) and never had the problem with earlier Sonar versions.

Any suggestions?

This happens with no plug-ins? I know that if I add heavy plug-ins like Perfect Space or forward looking plug-ins I can add latency.

I'm a little confused by what you're describing, dino.  Can you be more specific as to what you are actually doing to see this problem?  Are you saying that you can record just fine with low-latency monitoring, but after hitting playback, any future recording suffers until you open and close the dialog?  Also, are you monitoring through the Saffire or through input echo in Sonar?

Do not use onboard sound cards if you want low latency and good performance. Dedicated audio sound cards will yield you way way better latency results and performance as they have the drivers, converters and hardware that is made for audio recording and playback

Here is a list of some sound cards - sound cards

CJ, isn't the Saffire he's using a proper card for Sonar?

Dinopop, someone else has found this problem, too, the solution might be in what you have in common....
