Problems with midi and soft synths

Hey guys,

not a big deal, but a bit annoying.

When i connect my midi device to my computer Sonar automatically asks me if I want it to add this device to its list of Midi-device. I click Yes and everything works fine.
But then when i insert a soft-synth plug-in I ALWAYS have to select Midi-Omni in the input of the syntheziser track manually (it's always mereley Omni, not midi-omni).

And also when i insert a soft-synth plug-in the soft synth dialog box appears and the option "enable midi-output" should be UNCHECKED but again its CHECKED by default, so i always have to uncheck it if i don't need it (which is the case most of the time).
as far as i can remember there is no way to customize the soft synth dialog box so that it looks the same by default. ("edit - preferences - file - vst settings" does not do it for me..)

(maybe these two issues are somehow intertwined??)

PLEASE help, and thanks a lot everybody!

What problems do you actually have by leaving "Omni" and "Enable MIDI Output" as is?

As i said it's not a big deal but it's annoying and it worked fine in Sonar X2. Now that i got X3 everything is a bit messed up it seems.

Here's what it says on this page : " . The fat text is what i'm referring to: "enable Midi output" should be unchecked by default in the soft synth options dialogue

If you wish to utilize MIDI input or output for a supported VST plug-in, you must explicitly enable the ports in SONAR. SONAR lets you enable MIDI input and output ports for any MIDI capable VST plug-in.

I believe the text is a carry forward from previous versions of the documentation. It appears that the check box is now dynamically set based on the synth. Whether the documentation or the new behavior is correct can only be resolved by the vendor. If the new behavior is a problem, send in a bug report.

The issue with "Omni" vs. "All Inputs Omni" goes back at least X1, and is just a display issue. The track will actually be functioning in All Inputs - Omni mode, even though it just shows Omni.

As for defaulting to Enable MIDI Out, I believe the default state of the Insert Synth dialog is saved per project. I you don't want it enabled by defualt make sure it's disabled in the template(s) you use to start new projects.
