Problems with pre-recorded loops.

Here's what happens - if I import a standard 44.1, 16bit WAV loop (pro quality purchased from reputable company) - there are clicks in the audio upon playback. I've adjusted all the buffer settings in MC3 and ASIO4ALL, and can make it stop for a short while, but after a few bars, the clicks return. I even switched over to MME to see if the ASIO4ALL was causing the problem - no luck.

If I take the same loop file, import it into another program (MAGIX or SONY or Audacity) the loop plays fine. If I then export the loop from the other software and then import that file into MC3, it will now play fine in MC3. I'm not sure why this is the case, but it makes it hard to use MC3 as a loop sequencer to create backing tracks.

Any ideas?

    what is your project sampling/bit rate? are you importing the 16bit/44.1 loop into a 24bit/44.1 or 48kHz project?

    most of the time, that shouldn't be a problem, but maybe with these loops it is. I would try converting them into 24bit after importing them. You can do that with a menu function, but i don't remember exactly where it is right now. in TOOLS maybe?

    In MC3 I've set my project default to 44.1, 16bit - just so all my audio software would play nice together. I then went back to 48, 24bit because that is the default of the SoundBlaster card I use - still no change. It's not just this set of loops either - does it on many other sets I've purchased too.

    Right now, just a curiosity for me, but I would like to figure it out. Perhaps I should try the CakeWalk tech support guys and see what they say...

    I had a similar problem when using asio4all via cakewalk on my soundblaster soundcard when playing audio loops so I changed the drivers to MME and have no problems on that level now. Just an idea but I can't gauratee that it will work. I also have the "Enable read and write cache's selected.

    Are the click only at the breaks between the loops? or during the loop?

    Cake is not the best looping tool on the planet. When i want to build tracks from loops, i use Acid it is seamless with looped media. you can try the free version it only has 8 tracks but will let you giver er a try. the studio version is only $69 at best buy.

    Like Robo said, Acid is the best. You can also purchase Sony loops which are 110% acidized (meaning they work flawlessly in Acid based applications). Acid Music studio will run you 70.00, which isn't bad for what it can (it's ability to synch tracks, and beatmap them to a specified approach). 3rd party loops also work nice (Beta Monkey, etc). And there are no clicking or annoying attributes that I've ever come across. This could also be that your CPU is struggling to keep up, not a lot of memory. Just a guess.

    Thanks guys. I have ACID XPress which works great as you've both mentioned. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to use ACID or MAGIX (works great too) to create a backing track with loops, export that as a WAV file, and then load it into MC3 for recording the rest of the tracks I want to include.

    As always, I was just looking for a short cut.

    this same subject came up on the techniques forum and here's the best advice I found out of that thread:

    it's a free converter that converts your loops to 24bit. hopefully that will solve your problem in Cakewalk and won't have to import/export to other programs once you've done all the conversions. I'd try it on one first, tho, before i converted all of them and then found out it didn't work!

    I've used r8brain to convert files recorded on my ZOOM (32kHz, 16-bit) up to 44.1kHz, so I can import them into my audio programs. I never though about trying a bit-depth change on the loop files though, so I'll give that a try and see what happens.

    I had mgix as well, but never liked it, MC was eaier to use, I can get flawless looping with MC it just takes a bit more work than acid.

    I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!
