Problems with rearranging tracks in X2

I'm  using Sonar Producer X2 without the patch (which isn't supposed to address any of these issues).

I'm trying to rearrange that is currently all MIDI tracks and getting frustrated.

* I try to copy 1 bar - beat 2 of one bar to beat 2 of the following.
Wanted to do it for all tracks at once, couldn't get it to work.
Either nothing happens at all or one or more track get garbage (MIDI notes from wrong tracks).

* I try to copy 2 bars - from tracks 11 through 15 and paste them elsewhere in the same tracks.
What pastes in is tracks 5 through 10 into tracks 5 through 10.
Tried multiple times to make sure I had the corrected tracks selected, etc. same results each time.

* Select a group of track and try to move them over
The frozen MIDI tracks stay behind.

I can manipulate single tracks OK but multiple track editing / manipulation is screwy.

I don't recall having any of these issues with previous Sonar versions (don't actually recall if I tried this with X1 but with 8.5 & earlier definitely).
Any one else run into these problems?

I'm not fully understanding but be aware that there have been some changes to the way the Smart tool behaves. Check out the new ways of editing with the ST in the manual. Also there is a bug that does some very wacky stuff when selecting clips and tracks. I've resorted to locking all tracks/clips that I am not currently editing using the Lock Clips feature.

Select the tracks/clips you want to lock (for tracks click the track number so it turns blue, for clips click the clip header), press I on your keyboard to open the Inspector, Click the "Clips" tab, click the Lock dropdown and select Pos/Data and it will lock the selected track/clips.

Also if you don't want to do that and more clips get selected than you intended you can use the Deselect function to deselect those clips. That is simply done my pressing Ctrl on your keyboard and clicking on the unwanted clip's header. The other selected clips should stay selected.

If I have completely misinterpreted the problem my apologies.

Except for trying to drag the selected tracks over the issues are with trying to cut & paste more than one track at the same time.

With the drag issue - none of the tracks are locked (thanks for reminding me of that I should do that to a couple of other tracks and forgot it was there) and I switched the tool to the Move tool.  Once the I unfroze the frozen tracks in the group I was able to move it easily.

The cutting & pasting problem was annoyingly weird. I ended up inserting a blank measure and only copy the sections needed.

I'm still not really visualizing what you are saying but I can be a little thick sometimes. Sounds like you got at least some of it figured out. I'm finding that to use Sonar efficiently there is a serious need to be able to find workarounds, particularly with the fresh release of X2. Kind of annoying but for the low cost and high functionality it's worth it IMO. Cheers.

I was having a couple of problems.

    One involved frozen tracks.
If I tried to move (drag) a group of tracks over a couple of bars, my frozen tracks would get left behind.

The other involved trying to do a cut & paste with a group of tracks.

Ah, I see. I haven't had a need to freeze anything as of yet (computer seems to be doing a good job) and I avoid copy/pasting across tracks because it generally does weird unintended crap. I just chalked it up to my own ignorance but maybe it's a design flaw. Cheers.

If you just highlight all the clips you want to copy, then holding down the Ctrl key, you can drag / copy them to a different location whilst maintaining track integrity. They will of course follow the current Snap settings.

This works perfectly here in X2.

If this isn't your issue, ignore everything I just said

    Thanks for the reply.
What I was trying to do was copy a group of tracks and then insert them via 'paste special' into a location in my song - this failed miserably.

What worked was inserting a blank measure and using the technique you describe (Ctrl -Drag).
