Yes indeed, this is one killer system.  Jim is a great guy to work with...very, very patient.  I asked a bunch of questions and he didn't hesitate to answer with a "smile."

Just now really getting into the heart of my Studiocat machine, and man, what a difference over what I was using before. Jim is great with support, and I might add, very patient. Thanks, Jim!

Can I join this Jim  admiration society?    It was a pleasure dealing with Jim many years ago (was Studio Cat) in obtaining my Frontier Design (Tango 24s, Dakota, Sierra) and Swissonic gear - the latter which I returned with no grief whatsoever in favour of a second Tango24 (the swissonic wouldn't clock nicely to the dakota) from him.  I've been stuck with a Pentium single-core 3.2 GHz with Win XP since I think '05 or maybe even late '04 (nice machine for its time) and Sonar 6.2.1 on it since '07.  I know I'm certainly "due" for an upgrade with everything but have been loathe to do so because everything works so smoothly.  New computer means Win 7 but unfortunately it looks like Frontier Design is not going to provide a Win 7 driver so that means new hardware will also be required and then might as well upgrade to Sonar 8.5 or the new X1 whilst I'm at it.   So now you all have me intrigued about considering one of Jim's machines.
What audio interface are you using with it?

I use mine with a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.  Works wonderfully...low latency...huge headroom.

I'm using a MOTU MKII (firewire).  With my "old" PC I could NEVER get the MOTU to work correctly...lots of pops and crackles.  With the new DAW that I purchased from Jim the MOTU works perfectly...not even a hickup.  Latency is about 1.5ms.  I think the round trip is around 5ms.  Man, I love this thing!!!

FWIW< I use the Motu Ultralite MKiii (f/w) as well - and it's been a tremendously reliable, smooth device.

Others tout more low latency - but I don't feel the need, frankly.   But perception is reality for most ;)

BTW - aside from his DAW building resume - we are lucky to have someone like JIm who *also* shares his knowledge very freely here.  THat's kind of special in this world.

We typically don't ship to the UK... because warranty/service would be slow and expensive.

I finally got a chance to do some "real" work with the new DAW lastnight.  The DAW was "transparent."  I was able to concentrate totally on the work without any DAW interruption.

    ...it's a beautiful thing.

OK.  A guy can take only so much of this.  I guess I really need to crawl out of the dark ages and call Jim. A transparent DAW, that's what I want...

Of course, by transparent, I mean the DAW doesn't have any performance issues that get in the way.  No dropouts, crashes or other PC related anomalies.

Vinski - although Jim doesn't ship, Scott (ADK) has started reselling his laptops via Scan in the UK, i'd guess they'd be the closest thing to StudioCat in the UK...

It will be two years ago this January since I purchased a Studiocat i7, and it is running like it just came out of the box, flawlessly.  It is the absolutely the best music-related purchase I have ever made.  I am using a MOTU Ultralite mk3; I just leave it 64 samples running a lot of plugins plus softsynths and usually 2 to 4 (sometimes 5) instances of Guitar Rig 4 in a tune at a time, and it works extremely well at very low latencies.

Jim is great to work with as well, patiently answering questions and there for support if it is ever needed.

Sonar shines on a well-tuned DAW.
