Program Change problem

How do I stop soft synths such as Z3TA and Pentagon 1 responding to program change messages from an external keyboard?  I want to be able to change patches on the keyboard without the soft synths changing presets!  And no, I can't disable sending PC's on the keyboard (Novation XIO)!  Any wisdom would be appreciated!

Change the input port to something other than your Novation on the tracks with Z3TA & Pentagon on.

But that means it wouldn't respond to note on/off messages either which I do want!

I'm not understanding you correctly then. Why would you want to change patches on your novation if you are playing a softsynth?

If you explain what you are trying to achieve a little clearer I or others may be able to help you do that.

    EDIT: Removed some BS advice.

It's for a live set up. I'm playing the soft synths from the external keyboard (the Novation), along with some of its local sounds. However I need to change the patches on the Novation for certain songs without the soft synths changing.  Does that make sense?

Ok. In that case I'd set up the Novation to use a different MIDI channel to that used by softsynths within Sonar and then switch the novation to that channel for bank changing and back again when finished.

I'm not familiar with the Novation but isn't there a way of specifiying the channel program changes are sent on? I use a PCR-800 and can set program change commands to specific channels, doing that should stop the commands reaching the soft sysnths, as long as they are receiving on a different channel.

Okay thanks.  I don't think the Novation can do that, but I found a way of effectively 'turning off' incoming program change messages using the MIDI event filter.
